Someone set them up teh bomb. I hope this hasn't already been posted, but I thought I'd complain about it. You know how we do.

haha, and now the announcements and events rss feed (or xml, whatever) just crashed, so no more updates via that. lol, I'd hate to be working there tonight.

Internet bound traffic has moved over to the backup gateway which has cleared up most of the Internet traffic problems. However, at this time there appears to be some internal routing issues that we are investigating."

SET UP THEM, NOT SET THEM UP. The quote is: "Someone set up us the bomb."

^ when you got some 40000 nodes to manage.. it takes some time to find the problem.. UNC has a much smaller network to manage

from the looks of all the cases.. it looks like a routing table issue, ARP cache, spanning tree misconfiguration (if we have that kind of infrastructure), maybe an unauthorized box found its way onto the network without going behind a firewall first, probably spread a worm.. who knows..

Yea, this is the kind of problem that really doesn't have anything to do with IT management. Sometimes shit just goes south.

Alright, as abnoxious as some of the people at resnet can be, they still know their shit. I mean how often does this kind of outage happen? Once, twice a semester? Considering how huge our network is, they usually fix the problems pretty damn fast too.
