here:
Quote : | "On an August morning in 1978, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a friend, a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck speed through the heart of Paris. The film was limited for technical reasons to 10 minutes; the course was from Porte Dauphine, through the Louvre, to the Basilica of Sacre Coeur.
No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit.
The driver completed the course in about 9 minutes, reaching nearly 140 MPH in some stretches. The footage reveals him running real red lights, nearly hitting real pedestrians, and driving the wrong way up real one-way streets." |

i mean it was filmed in the seventies and the dude is driving a car.
these days it gets a lot faster. ghostrider was averaging something like 140-150 mph in the last couple videos and he had a whole lot more traffic around

well, it is a ferrari, but its not a modern one by any means. 275GTB was a great little sports car with a free revving small displacement v12, sounds nice but you could say it talked big and carried a little stick. compare it to a stock s2000 if the s2000 only had 5 close gears.

well then paris definitely needs to lose the slick cobblestones then dont you think? i wonder how many of those streets have been paved since 1978.11/17/2005 9:38:57 PM |

I have seen this one before but this is a much better print. Thanks for posting it. here's another piece of trivia.
Almost everyone knows that the director of "The French Connection" shot the chase scene with no permits and that Hackman did some of his own driving, but they also filmed one high speed run using the same stunt driver (Bill Hickman) who drove the charger for "Bullit". They pretty much mounted a camera on the car, set up the other cameras and drove flat out. 11/18/2005 9:39:34 AM |

It's amazing how empty the streets were, especially for a city like Paris. That could never be done today with all the traffic and such 11/19/2005 1:47:04 PM |
