As you may have heard, the Technician's seemingly nonexistent music coverage sucks. You may also be aware that a new publication, Splat!, will be taking the NC State campus by storm in January. We’re looking for articulate and well-versed writers to help out in the music section. You should probably know a good deal about music, be familiar with what is going on locally, and be able to construct a decent sentence. Wouldn’t it be fun to write about how sweet that last noise show at the Bickett Gallery was? What about that horrible moshXcore show at the Brewery that your friend made you pay twelve dollars to go to? We’re trying to cover a fairly diverse spectrum and not just write about how good the new Death Cab CD is or why Ashlee Simpson is a big poseur. From free jazz to hip hop to bluegrass to funeral doom and everything else, we could use your help to try and have a decent music-related publication at NC State. the reason why the technician people don't try too hard is because they're barely getting paid. chances are you won't be able to pay people well either (or you won't last long) ~ former music writer for technician.

If it were about video games instead of music, I would seriously be interested. I rarely see a video game column in a newspaper or magazine before (video game magazines excluded of course) and think it would be something that an engineering/science university would like.

the first issue is coming out right after the start of spring semester.
all are welcome, and you will have a great deal of freedom.
for some unknown reason, i’ve been made the section editor. i’m not too much of a prick.
we will have about 3-4 pages (8"x11") front and back.
you won't be paid, but just think of how much the members of your preferred sex will swoon.

labels aren't just going to give you free shit because you say you're going to publish a magazine or newspaper or whatever. so you're going to be asking people to write reviews of things they had to pay for and not recoup them for it? sure it might work for a couple issues. but i'm smelling crashing and burning.
