i googled this and couldn't find a satisfactory answer. i use Nero to make DVD's and i was wondering if a data dvd of just smaller video files, compared to an exact DVD copy, would still be able to be played in a normal DVD player. i have no idea if this is possible so that's y i'm asking. and if so, do they have to be a particular video format?

You mean like using dvdshrink or something similiar to reauthor?

Or cutting the main movie into chunks?

for example, say i have a bunch of small like 300mb movie clips or so that are an hour+, when i go to burn just a regular DVD i'm limited in time to how many i can put on the disc. now if i use the Data aspect, i dont have to worry about time but rather size. when that happens, can these movie clips still be played in a regular dvd player?

As far as I understand things, which is this case is nowhere near an expert level, as long as you meet the format and data structure requirements of the DVD format it should work fine. Do some google searching are read up on authoring DVDs. You will have to convert the files into DVD video format. Seriously, go do some reading. I'd start with doom9 and videohelp.
