I'm trying to decide between:

I'm leaning towards the Samsung because it got a good review on C|net: http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/televisions/0,39030218,39193146,00.htm

Can't find any reviews on the Sony, but there is this first take: http://www.cnet.com.au/hometheatre/tvs/0,39026201,40057167,00.htm

Price isn't really a consideration because they're both around the same (€2200/$2600).

you sure you want spend your money on an LCD tv? prices will come down big time over the next few years.

price already have come down if you buy an "off brand" like olevia... and the name brands use mostly the same lcd's since alot of them don't even make their own anyways.

^^ yeah, that's why research helps. My 32" Olevia is awesome, and I got it from J&R. They have great support, good prices, and no sales tax since their retail store is in NY.

Us, China, and Mexico as far as I know. Amazon.com has it, but amazon.co.uk doesn't have olevia products. ah well. But the samsung screen is better, just maybe not 1000 bucks better.



Can anyone think of a underrated high quality LCD maker that might sell their stuff in europe?

ever think of dlp or lcd projections? you can get a lot more real estate for what might be considered even a better picture.

i have a 50 inch sony grand wega lcd. the bulb blew in the first 6 months. im not impressed at all. SD picture quality sucks as well. HD however is awesome.

^how long is your warranty? did you file it?

our 42 inch sony lcd is working fine. if at any time in the next 7 years anything happens, circuit city will replace it, or replace it with a model then >= the original purchase price of this one.

I have a 56" samsung dlp. I looked at a lot of lcds, dlp's, plasma. It was a toss up between the lcd and dlp as far as picture quality and price value. My samsung is the wins. HD is incredible and I am totally pleased. I would go with the samsung.

hl-r5667w..this is this years model with 720p resolution. Newer models next year will probably have 1080p res...however broadcast programming at that resolution may be limited and I don't think any dvd's use that high of quality res as a standard. I'm very pleased with mine. Watching anything in hd is an experience and once you get used to it, you won't want to watch any thing else

yeah, sometimes I forget I'm watching normal channels and I start wondering why the hell my tv cost so much. Then I watch some cheerleaders or playboy mansion show on HD Net and all is well.

Actually samsung brought out a 1080p model at the same time as the 720p model but stores such as bestbuy and circuit city didn't pick up the line. Audio Advice carries that line though...the 56" model is the 5678.
