So I ended up doing a fresh install on our office computer after some major HDD corruption, and now XP keeps detecting about 8 or 9 unknown devices, and can't locate the drivers for them. Here's what my system information reads under "Problem Devices" :

Not Available ROOT\MEDIA\MS_MMACM The drivers for this device are not installed.
Not Available ROOT\MEDIA\MS_MMDRV The drivers for this device are not installed.
Not Available ROOT\MEDIA\MS_MMMCI The drivers for this device are not installed.

Not Available ROOT\MEDIA\MS_MMVID The drivers for this device are not installed.
Not Available ROOT\RDPDR\0000 Failure using the VxD loader.
Not Available ROOT\RDP_KBD\0000 This device cannot start.
Not Available ROOT\RDP_MOU\0000 This device cannot start.


Whoever gives me the solution to this gets two free oil changes out of it...and hell, I'll come to you if you don't live 50 miles away.

It looks like you are missing the sound-card drivers (among a few others).

Go to the mfgr website and download all of the most recent drivers for the PC and install them.

Here's the Catch-22...I've installed all of the drivers I have for all of the hardware I have.

Sound is integrated on the Mobo, and works fine. Everything seems to have normal functionality, so this is what's confusing me. I have normal internet access, my WinCE GPS syncs normally when I hook it up, I have good sound, graphics are totally great...I just can't figure this shit out.

I'm getting tired of 8 or 9 "unknown device, searching for driver" windows popping up every time on boot. Other than that, everything seems fine.

Hell no.

All mobo drivers have been installed.

It's one I put together back in the spring. MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI mobo w/ SB 24 bit onboard sound, AMD Athlon 64 3200, 1 gig PC3200 RAM (Corsair ValueSelect), Seagate 250GB SATA HD, Sapphire ATI 128MB PCI-E 16 vid card, and I'm using at least 5 USB ports for my WinCE-based GPS handheld, Microsoft mouse, Epson scanner, HP 500 24" wide format printer, and what the hell ever else I've got plugged in...maybe my Logitech joystick.

The mobo is really way too much for what I need. Hell, it supports dual vid cards (SLI, 2 PCI-E 16 slots), has options for up to 6 (or is it 8, I can't remember) SATA drives in a RAID config, has Firewire ports (which I may end up using if I keep the board), etc...

Now that's a good question. I had everything unplugged except my ethernet cable from my router and my small printer (on the LPT1 parallel port). I think maybe I'll give that a try tomorrow or whenever I go back to the office.

Last two sound like keyboard/mouse. And as has been said ... download the drivers. I'm pretty sure MSI has a utility you can download which will check whether you have the proper/most recent drivers installed on your computer.

Yeah i had the same issue. I wound up having to restart the computer and reinstall the audio and video drivers AGAIN and then it took. It's something in the registry. That's why everything works, but you still get these errors.

Go to Nvidia and get the latest ones. That might also fix the problem. I was installing on a win2k box though.

interesting enough...the mouse intermittently freezes.

I'll re-install both mouse and keyboard drivers. Both are Microsoft. I would have assumed that the proprietary drivers in XP would handle them if the new drivers didn't. But maybe they are corrupt.

System hung on boot today. I have the diagnostic LED header with this board; I need to look at it while it's booting.

BTW, I have the latest drivers from MSI for this board.

Reinstalled a lot of the drivers...went to device manager and either uninstalled or disabled all of the unknown devices. Everything seems to function just fine.

No mouse freeze or anything yet. Pop said it happened first thing this morning when he went to boot the system, so he restarted it twice and it finally cleared up.

One thing I'd like to know is this: our office only has space heaters, which we shut off at night. Might the temperature change have anything to do with the boot issues?
