not sure what the point of this post is, however you are correct.

one of the major selling points for my 944 was the14 years of chronological receipts that came with it, following the original dealer stamps while it was on lease from the first owner

granted the car still needs a bit of work, but it's nice to know where to start.

keeping service records could hurt the sale, especially when you've had 3 transmissions, computer, passsenger seat motor, driver window regulator, windshield seals, and 5 sets of pads and rotors.

oh yeah, all within 80,000 miles.

But why wouldn't you save them?

Just toss them in your glove compartment, and viola! Your car is worth more.

i would actually expect a work van to have records, assuming it was a company's work van
im pretty sure there are records for all of our trucks where i work

^ might not be a good thing considering they usually go 10000 miles or more between oil changes

haha yestarday i started to drive truck two but it sounded like there were no brake pads
just nasty sounding metal on metal grinding

they seem to be better about oil changes now, i think they usually get them by 5k
and none of them have bald tires anymore

When I sold my G35, I handed the guy all of the service records, which included a series of oil changes and 30K scheduled maintenance.

getting service records is kind of like getting a clean carfax report... doesn't really mean shit.

Being meticulous about service and keeping the records is a sign that the person cared about the car. I'll take a car with records over a car without any day assuming they show that the car was serviced regularly.

I keep the records from anything I've had done at the dealership/a shop, but I'm trying to do more and more of the work myself. In that case, all I have are reciepts for the parts. And even then, I tend to forget to keep recepits for oil/filter.

anyone who posts in the garage should be able to tell how a vehicle was maintained just by looking at it.

How so? I know a girl that went over 15k on a Jiffy Lube oil change, but I can't just look at the car and tell that.

i knew there would be at least one person that would need this explained to.

and what condition was her car in?

It's actually pretty clean. She pays Autobell every month or two to clean it and she never takes it offroad, so for a 4x4 Blazer you'd think it has been babied if you saw it.

I guess she has her priorities straight.

but again, knowledge of cars would tell you where to look and what to look for. you know what the hell i'm getting at.

besides, i don't do oil changes on my vehicles until 15k.

look into the oil fill hole and inspect the dipstick.

both should have some sort of ugly build up.

who cares, just because you show proof of maintaining a car doesn't make it any more mechanically or cosmetically sound. you still have very little idea of how the vehicle was driven, in what conditions, overall history, etc. i hope you don't really buy into that scam. gg to someone for keeping records, but the hell if i'm going to pay MORE just because a car has them, or even choose that vehicle over one without records based on that alone.

agreed, when someone asks me for service records on a vehicle I am selling, I just want to reach in my pocket and pull out my big middle finger and be like "heres your records"

cause i mean, i dont really ever take my shit to anyone unless it has to do with tires or AC or something, i couldnt let someone else change my oil- thats MY job.
