I have Apache 2.0.55, MySQL 4.1.15, and PHP 4.4.1 (as an Apache module). When I try to install either phpMyAdmin or MediaWiki, MySQL gives me this error:

"1251 - Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client"

I already tried changing the password hashing. It still doesn't work.

The "client" is PHP. I'm using the newest version of the 4.x branch.
