Quote : | "This V8 Engine made entirely out of paper with the exception of a few parts (motor, wires, etc.), is fully functional. It features many moving parts which include “a compound crankshaft, a rapid cooling fan, 8 rods, 8 pistons and a complex compound gearbox etc.”. The engine is powered by 2×1.5V D Batteries and weighs 2.98kg. From start to finish this model took one year to design and construct. There is even a D.I.Y. kit in the works that will be released shortly at the price of $85 USD." |

The page has videos of it running.
Seems like a cool project.

No it can't. We have a zcorp here at state. It prints with sugar water and starch. The parts are brittle as fuck until you literally drench them in superglue. And even then they are hardly "working parts".
We also have an ABS printer though, and it produces fully working shit, and is a lot cheaper.11/25/2005 10:21:27 PM |

will it not create a nut and bolt where the nut can spin on the bolt? will it not create bearings that will spin?
The zcorp state has isn't as nice as some of their other models either that can handle other materials.
besides 5756 pieces of paper is a lot of paper and I'm sure a lot of time. 11/25/2005 10:40:34 PM |

ENGINES ARE MADE OF METAL, not paper, not ABS, not gumdrops and definitely not hopes and dreams. 11/26/2005 12:19:54 AM |

This is only slightly cooler than those books for making paper dinosaurs and star wars fighter ships back when we were kids. Yes its more complex than those, and yes I'd be impressed to see someone I know make it, if mostly for the time commitment....

The one here will, but like I said, the parts are brittle as shit, as in, they will break if knocked or dropped.11/27/2005 4:42:19 PM |
