Supporting the troops means wanting them to be killed, maimed, and poisoned by depleted uranium in an illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq. It means having them fight ill-equipped without proper armor.

If you want the troops to come home immediately and be out of harm's way and done with fighting unjust and illegal wars of aggression resulting in the slaughter of over 100,000 people who did nothing wrong to the United States...then you "don't support" the troops.

To be fair to Limbaugh, he probably is right that the USO isn't for him.

But in general, he makes the lame criticism that it's full of "lefties" and such -- well, yes, probably. But the audience is certainly quite conservative, it being the military and all. I find it hard to believe that they're all rabid Al Franken fans.

He made his own trip in lieu of USO, but it took him a long time to arrange it. People are dying over there every day.

Rush -- being a multi-millionaire many times over -- and his ilk should put their money where their mouth is and start a conservative USO. Surely Rupert Murdoch himself would love such a venture, and the publicity it'd bring as a "fresh approach to entertaining our troops."

The difference being- Rush rode a helicopter around Afghanistan and chit-chatted with a handful of soldiers

Al Frankin actually interacted with a significant number of troops and provided some entertainment- in both Afghanistan and Iraq.

Meanwhile Rush seeks to make money off of the troops. If he truly cares, why not give subscriptions to all active soldiers who want it?

Yes, but it took him a long time to do so (by his own admission). He blamed the bureaucracy involved.

But part of the value of an organization like USO is that it has an economy of scale when it comes to sending people overseas, and they're good at setting up tours. Rush needs to either work out his differences with USO or find a better way to go overseas.

And this "donor" program is just asinine. He should directly donate the newsletters. War profiteering is not exactly an honorable way to "support the troops."

(to be fair he does discount the newsletter, but that puts it basically on the same level as a Whole Foods marketing campaign)

The other thing about the "adopt a soldier" campaign is a little more devious.

So basically soldiers register themselves or are adopted explicitly by donors. Basically Limbaugh is then creating a direct marketing database of people who are interested in his newsletter, but who are not currently subscribing to it (because they're at war, of course).

How much do you want to bet the veterans who recieve this newsletter via the adoption program recieve some "inivitations" from Limbaugh once they leave the service to subscribe?
