is there anyone on here that knows a lot about these trucks or owns one? i'm looking at gettin an old j-10 to have as a long term project but was going to see if anyone had advice on what year are better than others.

fyi, the one i'm looking at has the 4.2 258, 4 speed (i'm guessing t18a?), and the quadratrac. dual d44's and it's a 78, but i would be gettin flattop knuckles from a 74 with it.

I know a little about em, my brother had an 89 fullsize waggy. That 258 is about the best engine jeep ever built, you can slap a 4.0 head on it and get a fairly easy fuel injection conversion. The 44s are good, heard mixed reviews on the quadratrac (is that a pull a lever, single speed transfer case? if so, probly want to ditch that). Count on replacing the radiator.

I'd get rid of the quadratrac, or skip it, find one with a 360, t18, dana 20, and 44's, pre 80. just my opinion. Get a cherokee chief 2-dr, waggy, or j-10 with that setup. they're lots of fun for relatively cheap.

it is pre 80. if you swapped the quadratrac t-case could you swap on locking hubs on the front axle?

fine one that isn't quad... they're around. i know quadratec CJ's have offset rear differential, does a fullsize? it's just a huge hassle that can be easily avoided

find a j-20 with a 360/t-18/d20 and d44/d60ff.

or do the smart thing and get a yota.

the rear diff is offset to the passenger side some. i don't really want a yota right now, so that eliminates that. and if Tuite you can find me a j20 for 350 bux i'll buy that instead.
