get a regular oiled unit. Not the oilless like in the photo. Also the cambells hausfelds at lowes are nice and have a good price. Make sure it at least goes up to 140lbs. 11/27/2005 8:48:08 PM |

the husky compressors are great, i cant remember whether northern or harbor has them, but my dad has had a 5hp 60 gal one in his shop that runs a hell of a lot for 4 years now without a single problem, and it was less than $350, so one your size would probably be around $200 11/27/2005 9:14:42 PM |

we have a nice used one at the shop we will sell you cheap, like $100 cheap. its not a vertical one though, but you dont need a verical for home use.
once it hits the cutoff the contacts dont close themselves, so you have to tap on them a couple times, but you can probably clean all that shit up real good (the whole damn thing needs a little cleaning) and itll be good as new. 11/27/2005 9:21:29 PM |

they have the vertical units that arent like industrial size. i just want it vertical so it doesnt take up space. or at least i can be able to store it vertically.

Husky is HomeDepot's brandname. Though most of the compressors are made by the same cmpany and labeld as Husky/Kobalt/Craftsman/etc.
An oiless direct drive will be much cheaper, at the expense of some durability and a lot of noise. The oil/belt drive compressors will last longer and are much quieter. 11/27/2005 10:43:23 PM |

Set a price limit and then find the one that flows the most CFMs at 90 psi. Tools like impact wrenches are designed to operate at that pressure. Compressors that can give 175 psi can only give minimal amounts of air at that pressure. I would recommend going to Northern and getting an Ingersol Rand. They have one similar to that Craftsman for 399. 11/28/2005 8:34:24 AM |

I can vouch for not getting an oilless. They're way too goddam loud, and they just don't have the output that I would like. Take one apart and look for yourself...you'll see why they're so fucking cheap.
Most of the oilless compressors have a really inflated hp rating...it's usually surge hp rating, as opposed to constant. Makes it look better to consumers.
Most of those 5hp oilless compressors are in the neighborhood of 2hp under steady state operation. What a scam. 11/28/2005 10:48:11 AM |

yeah, i think harbor frieght is where ima look. ima see if i can get one with the free tools, i know most of them arent the best, but hell ive used the tools that come with the compressors and they do the job around the house. 11/28/2005 12:21:02 PM |

get this one,
7500 hp, 9000 cfm@ 150psi
or this one, 2100 cfm@ 610psi
you could pick up either one for less than $400,000, but they gotta ship it truck freight, the top one weighs 8 tons.

you'd need a hell of an extension cord, and btw, have you ever seen a 7500hp motor? its bigger than your civic, go to your local freindly paper mill and ask them to see a refiner or wet end vacumm pump motor, that pic does it no justice, its taller than you are 11/29/2005 12:03:45 AM |

if we are talking air guns, the IR titanium 1/2" pwnts everything, 1250ft/lbs reverse, 1100 fwd, we used to use one for tractor trailer lugnuts at my old job, at 1.5 pounds, it was a lot easier to drag around than an equivlant 1" gun 11/29/2005 1:11:41 PM |

if you ever plan to use a sand blaster with your compressor get one thats cast iron instead of aluminum. We had an al. Ingersoll Rand that went to hell because it ran so long running the sandblaster. we switched to an iron bodied compressor and havent had any problems. The aluminum ones cant dissipate enough heat to not warp the block and heads. It was a big unit with about a 100 gallon tank 11/29/2005 1:20:23 PM |

i work at sears at crabtree, and i own last years 30 gal and it works pretty good, but it is loud as hell, we offer a black professional that is unfortunately a horizontal unit, but it is an oil-type, and is pretty damn quiet, with pretty good flow numbers, its sells for like 429. But this coming saturday from 7-10 we have a 10% off sale, its the time to come get a compressor if you want a craftsman, or any tools for that matter.... my name's chris, if you come in and don't see something ask me, and i can probably get it (we can order some IR compressors, and a few other brands) 11/29/2005 1:46:34 PM |

You can have the biggest, baddest Impact Gun known to man. But if the compressor you have can't provide the CFM continousely, its not any better than a cheapo CH gun.
But yes the IR guns are the best around 12/1/2005 1:22:49 PM |
