maple is one of the most worthless programs people at the Cal I or Cal II level... hell even Cal III will ever use. It's pointless and stupid. I completely agree when your TI-85 calculator is more functional than a math program something is wrong.

^ That's is stupid. Maple and MATLAB have different purposes. The former is for symbolic computation, the latter is for numerical solvers.

To evaluate e, type

exp(1);

yeah that's how I finally did it. the irony is the fucker I was talking to re tech support kept insisting that all I needed to do was evalf(e)...

still can't evalf a function that has e's in it though, it just spits out the original function

but at this point I don't give a fuck, the semester is practically over and I'm officially tired of fucking around w/ Calc III

Sounds like somebody didn't load a library they needed; Maple is my first choice for mathematical modeling. I like MATLAB, but I'm not very proficient at it.

hahahaha, you think "tech support" writes the program.

i'm pretty sure they've never been asked as stupid a question as "how do you evaluate e?" so they were just making shit up.

you couldn't find out how to evaluate an exponential function using the maple help files

so you called tech support

wow

i'd suggest you stick to your ti-89 in the future

I've got the program here you arrogant piece of shit, maybe you'd like to take a look yourself. If "evaluating an exponential function" was my problem I wouldn't have bothered.

The evalf function evaluates to floating-point or complex floating-point numbers, expressions (or subexpressions) involving constants such as Pi, exp(1), gamma, and functions such as exp, ln, sin, arctan, cosh, GAMMA, and erf. For the complete list of known constants, see ininames. For the complete list of known functions, see inifcns.

^ ahahahaha, it fucking told you right in the help file. good job. I don't know why everyone is so down on maple. it's a really powerful and versitile tool, the prof's here for the most part just suck at teaching it. only professor I've ever had that was good at answering maple related questions was norris.

Maple is actually a really good mathematical package; its downfall is that they need some serious lessons in writing user-friendly code. It's powerful, but its commands are counter-intuitive to people familiar with most any other math program, or calculator.

You like 98 degrees. What's that got to do with you not being able to read a help file before bitching? Nothing. What's that got to do with you not understanding why people might find that funny as hell? Not much either.

What does a quote of me saying what with absolutely no context have to do with anything?

You write that and you criticize someone else's comprehension of the english language? Give it a rest. You've proven yourself to be incompetent. You don't need to keep posting. We get it; you're a moron.

Quote :

By the way, you do realize that when you enter a letter e in a function, and don't define what e is, you can't evaluate it because the letter e is seen as a variable right? This is neither strange nor suprising to anyone who's used a ti-89, webassign, or maple. It's kind of like how on newer TI calculators, you have to use "e^" and raise it to the first power to get the constant "e." As with the calculator, if you just turn on a-lock and enter the letter "e" it won't know what the fuck you mean unless you define it. Unlike the calculator, maple even includes that info in the help files.

It's cute how you keep talking, it's like you almost vaguely understand what's going on

By the way, you do realize that when you evaluate a function without typing it (like, say, when it's produced by Maple itself), and don't define what e is, the letter e is seen as a constant right? This is neither strange nor surprising to anyone who's used a ti-89, webassign, or maple.

You write that and call someone else an incompetent moron? Give it a rest.

so maple 'produced' this erroneous function, evalf(e)

that makes sense
