I'm not sure if anyone else is hooked on this show but I love it. The guy has to survive by himself for 7 days in extreme environments around the world and he has to film the whole thing himself too. Great show. It's on the science channel on Fridays at 8:00pm, 12:00pm, and 4:00am. http://www.survivorman.ca/ 11/29/2005 3:28:23 PM |

it's on again now. 12:00
and again at 4am
http://www.survivorman.ca/episodes.html I've only seen a couple.
Episode 2 - Arizona Desert - Sonoran Desert Broken down dirtbike in the middle of the desert. Very dry and hot during the day, very dry and cold during the night. Big emphasis on water here, but there's lots of good food floating around. Grasshoppers, cacti, all other types of bugs. Lots of freaky wildlife at nighttime.
Episode 3 - Costa Rican Jungle I only saw the last half of this one. Way too hot and humid for a crazy Canadian. Lots of walking. Lots of freaky wildlife to watch out for.
Episode 8 - Plane Crash in the Canadian Forest Cold as shit, snowy, but he gets great use out of his broken airplane. Too bad he "broke" his left arm. (Just a simulated injury to add some realism.) There's lots of snow for drinking, but there's very little wildlife for eating. Manages to track down 1 rabbit for his only meal of the week. Mostly just huddles up in the cockpit of the plane and waits out the cold.

I can DVR, but have no means for converting them. If you want to chip in for the $300 eyeTV hookup for my PowerBook, I'll gladly give you all the copies. OR, you could order the DVDs yourself.

I was pretty disappointed with the Lost at Sea episode. Seemed like he cheated a lot in that one. Didn't ride out the storm, talked constantly about the safety boat, left after 6 days... (not like I wouldn't have done the same, though)
It was cool to hear about how far his boat drifted and stuff like that, but as for surviving on the life raft, it seemed to be merely "drink fresh water when you can, otherwise wait and wait and wait and wait..." I suppose there's not much else you can do on the raft. Can't cook, can't hunt, can't do anything except stay out of the water. 12/19/2005 6:58:32 PM |

On in 10 minutes:
Quote : | "Episode 5 - Canadian Arctic
Pond Inlet, on the Northern reaches of Baffin Island, provides one of the most challenging landscapes our planet has to offer. Over 700km north of the Arctic Circle, it sits amidst grinding, ever-shifting flows of sea-ice where polar-bears roam in search of meat. In this severe climate, Les has been equipped with a bare minimum of raw materials to aid him for the next 7 days - a hunk of uncooked seal-liver, some oil-rich blubber for heat, a seal-hook, three matches, and a knife." |

Well, while making a show, he has to stay grounded in reality. It wouldn't be much of a show anymore if he died or was otherwise permanently incapacitated. He knows what he's doing. 1/6/2006 10:59:47 PM |

Does it bother anyone else how Les eats? I mean, I know he's stranded and trying to survive and all that....but he seems like he chomps SO loudly on purpose. He does it in every episode too. I love the show but can't stand the parts where he eats! 1/23/2006 1:56:16 PM |
