i'm pretty sure usc played like someone ranked in the top 10 the other day didnt they?

and like notre dame didnt they?

didnt reggie bush have like 500 and something yards in a game or something

surely i must be mistaken, that would be impossible for a rb to do that in one game

better than an argument over who #1 is

the big 6 conference champs can get 6 spots, and there remaining 2 spots can be taken by the strongest of the remaining teams

Nah, I think there is enough "chaos" back around 8 that there can't be a very convincing argument as why 9 should get it over 8 in regards to letting the computer rank things. Where-as the #3 team on any given year can have very very good reasons as to why they should be in the Championship game.

they've played some pretty good teams in that span

regardless of whether or not they've had the hardest schedule, they've won 30+ in a row

no other team is even close to that

those were all purpose yards: rushing, receiving, and kick returns

yeah texas is undefeated, but i'm asking what happens if they lose

and i'm just basing the penn st. assumption on what herbstreit said on sportscenter

their winning streak shows their utter dominance over the last 3 seasons

unless they get totally blown out by ucla, the voters can't drop them past second place in the polls, there will be some bias because of what they've accomplished during their run

yes, they deserve to play...

the real question is "If Texas AND USC lose this weekend, then who gets into the title game?"

are you sure?

will they really drop both Texas and USC below those two? Texas i could see them justifying as they'll have lost their SEC championship game, but USC will still own a share of the PAC-10 title and will ahve lost to a ranked team... will they really fall two spaces underneath of other 1 loss teams?

Picking which 1-loss team should play in the NC would depend on whether USC or Texas lost, and how bad they lost.

Penn State lost by 1 second to Michigan. Michigan's a respectable team (certainly more so than Colorado), so that's why I think they're the best of the 1 loss teams. LSU lost to a bad Tennessee game in overtime. Close loss, but to a crappy team. Virginia Tech got owned by a good (not great) Miami team. Bad loss, but to a good team.

The Big 12 was pretty weak this year, and if Texas can't beat a 4-loss team from the Big 12, then they shouldn't be in the NC. If Texas plays, I will be PISSED if they still go.

USC, on the other hand, plays in a decent conference (not as tough as the Big 10 or SEC), but certainly better than the Big 12. If USC lost a close game to UCLA (a 1-loss team themselves), I'd consider leaving them in the championship game. If it was anything more than 2 touchdowns, I'd pick a Texas-Penn State game.

Neither one is going to lose so all of this is really moot point.

According to the BCS, Penn State has played @ #22 Northwestern, #6 Ohio State, @ #19 Michigan, and #18 Wisconsin with one loss.

USC has played @ #7 Oregon, @ #8 Notre Dame, #12 UCLA (this weekend), and #25 Fresno State AND STILL HASNT LOST.

Please explain to me how Penn State deserves to play more than them

So there would clearly be no controversy over bubble teams in March.

^^ But the teams that whine about not making it in March clearly won't win the national title. The last at-larges are around the 12 seed and the highest seed to ever win is an 8 I think.

Not to say in an 8-team playoff the 8 seed couldn't win, but the allowable margin of error for deciding a national champion is more tolerable for fans between 8 and 9 than 2 and 3.
