I just listened to the comments he made on Sportscenter. Personally, I don't think he needed to apologize to the team. Joey Harrington has not played worth a crap in the last two years.

HANG T.O. FOR SAYING NABB WAS TIRED BUT ITS OK FOR DRE BLY TO SAY HARRINGTON SUCKS AND IS THE ROOT OF ALL THEIR PROBLEMS.

T.O. has a history. It got old really fast. He was talking shit about teams that were winning, and then they started to lose.

This is Dre's first offense, and you can make the case that he's spot on. I'll rip Bly for not being on the field a lot over the past couple seasons, but in the end Harrington has flopped when given plenty of opportunity to succeed.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with what he said. He didn't even knock Harrington. He was just taking up for the coach.

All he was saying is that the coach only got fired due to a unusual situation (your starting QB being out). He was only suggesting that if the main man to run his offense would've been in the game, there'd be no reason to fire him. He wasn't saying that all the failures of the team were the fault of Harrington, he was just saying the coach was fired due to unexpected circumstances.

^don't be stupid

""When coaches are fired, there's one person that they look at in that development -- it's the quarterback," Bly told NFL Network. "The quarterback here has been bad, you know, as far as his play, hasn't really gotten the job done, ever since I've been here.''

Harrington, in his fourth year with the Lions, lost his starting job to Jeff Garcia earlier this season only to regain it when Garcia was sidelined because he was still recovering from leg injuries sustained in the preseason.

"At this point, I feel like if Jeff Garcia was healthy from Day One, we'd be in a better situation and this would have never happened. Coach wouldn't be fired," Bly said. "I was really happy when we got him (Garcia, in the off-season) and without Jeff, Joey didn't have anyone to push him.

"Joey's struggled before, he's struggling now. I just feel like if Jeff started, we'd never have to fire coach."

"

of course he is criticizing Harrington. And its a classless, shitty thing to do to a teammate.

^ I'm only referring to that small clip they showed on SC. I can't comment on the full interview.

That last sentence you bolded: there's absolutely NOTHING wrong with that. Had he said: "Joey's sucked before, he's sucking now", then it's different. Admitting a teammate is struggling is not a taboo thing to do. It shouldn't be. Otherwise every interview is gonna end up sounding like Chuck Amato saying "we're so close" and "well, we're playing out fannies off". The world needs a little honesty.

Fuck that. If a teammate of mine goes to the press and says that I've struggled before and I'm struggling now, I'd punch that motherfucker. Even if it were true.

Teammates have to respect and support each other, not criticize. Otherwise there are chemistry and trust issues. If you've ever played a team sport, you'd know that.

the QB is part of the team, and he sucks

i agree that he shouldn't have said it, nothing good can come of it

but the truth of what he said isn't debatable, harrington absolutely sucks, and he's had what, 4 years?

what good is chemistry on a bad team that shows little sign of succeeding?

this is like the argument of whether it's right to criticize the government, patriotism, etc.

[Edited on November 30, 2005 at 9:16 PM. Reason : and if joey harrington were to throw a punch, he'd not only miss badly but tear his rotator cuff too]

Well maybe Mooch should have realized that 2 years ago and traded him. Or brought in someone who isn't so injury-prone.

i'm talking about back after the superbowl, not all the drama of this season.

and you can't make the case that T.O. was 'spot on' when he said Donovan McChoke was tired in the superbowl?

I wasn't talking to anyone in the thread. I've seen people in the media that are cool with Dre saying this but chastised T.O. for saying that, which was completely accurate.
