HERB was not mad after the game last night about the supposed "no call" by the officials on the three point attempt, lets all get the straight. Evtimov did initiate the contact. Sendek was pissed because he was signalling for a Timeout when Evtimov was basically trapped on the baseline @ the end of the game before the grotesque airball.

He flipped the fuck out on those refs and rightfully so.

I'm not quite sure what the rule is, but i could have sworn coaches could call TimeOuts from the sidelines.

I promise, we will hear more about this incident within the next week

I'm not saying that at all!

while im not proud of our showing, im not really heartbroken either. That would have been a great game to win, but we lost, while commiting ~27 turnovers to boot.

If we get our act together, this loss can be a vital building block in our season.

The win would have been nice, but the loss gives us a great experience early in the season against a quality opponent.

remember, last season we were like 12-0 vs cupcakes, then started playing real teams and the ass-whoopin began.

You wont hear me say "Fire Herb" at all this season, all i was tryin to say was that he tried to call a Time Out to set up a play but was not acknowledged by the Refs.

that would not have been a great win for either team.

when you can say both teams have more turnovers than made field goals, it's most definitely not a good win.

That game will more than likely help both teams and coaches as it pointed out obvious things they need to work on. Our team will be fine and still be top 4 in the ACC with another run prolly to the Sweet Sixteen.

sure, we did look sloppy and the turnovers killed us and cost us the win
but, overall...im pretty happy at how we looked playing such a good team in thier house

was Herb yelling that he called a timeout or was he mad about the fact that the ref whistled Brackman for a foul with like 1 second left and the ref blew his whistle for it but then the horn sounded and they just called the game? i thought he was mad that they should have made iowa shoot the ft's w/ one sec left

I looked at it frame by frame earlier today and Herb most definitely called the timeout before Evtimov took the shot...Evtimov still had the ball low when Herb made the signal....on top of that, the ref was 2 feet in front of Herb, and while he wasnt looking at Herb, there is just no way he didnt hear Herb yell timeout.

it sucks, but they should have had a better play to run and better instincts about to do when the play was blown up. They also should not have been down to a team that fucking threw it out of bounds every other posession.

They showed a clip of this on WRAL news yesterday in slow motion, and you can see Herb trying to call the time out with about 4 seconds left. He furiously made the signal to a ref who was standing RIGHT NEXT TO HIM.

getting no response, Herb stepped onto the court and in front of the ref, still furiously showing the time out signal. By this time, the clock ran out and that's when Herb lost it.

Absolutely no doubt that the refs fucked us over on that last play.

add that to the list of completely terrible calls they made that night...

- the jump ball called in the first half while the Iowa player was laying out of bounds (if you are out of bounds and touch the ball, the ball is out of bounds.)

- the goal tending call on Ced where the replay showed the ball hitting the rim prior to him pinning it against the backboard (i think that's called a REBOUND)... granted I didn't see it until the replay, but I'm sure one of the refs had the angle necessary to see that.

not that it affected the outcome of the game, but those two calls put me into a fury while the game was going on.

i'm not trying to make it sound like this impacted the game, i just get frustrated with shitty refs OVER and OVER again.

it's one thing to disagree about questionable judgement calls (like I completely agree with the no-call on Evtimov's shot). but to just flat out miss calls based on the defined set of rules is terrible...
