Starting it up for this coming weekend.
For a good "if" scenario, or just chatting with friends, figure out what would happen if the following occurs Saturday:
UCLA def. USC Colorado def. Texas Florida State def. Virginia Tech Georgia def. LSU
BCS Standings:
1. USC 2. Texas 3. Penn State 4. LSU 5. Virginia Tech 6. Ohio State 7. Oregon 8. Notre Dame

Is there any scenario where Notre Dame gets kicked out? That's all I'm hoping for. 12/1/2005 5:27:16 PM |

^^ How does a discussion about we should have a playoff = a discussion about the possible BCS bigshots getting beat this weekend and the chaos it'll cost? We're not going to have a playoff for a long time, but I'll take all the chaos the BCS will put up all the same. 12/1/2005 5:43:34 PM |

USC and Texas losing will be a USC-Penn State Rose Bowl.. Texas an at large playing ND in the Fiesta.. VT and OSU in the Orange.. and LSU/Georgia and West Virginia in the Sugar Bowl..
FSU beating VT is highly unlikely the way FSU has been playing Colorado beating Texas is highly unlikely UCLA over USC is possible but unlikely
ND clinched a BCS game by going 9-2.. they are under contract with the Big East and the BCS to goto a BCS bowl if they are in the top 12 in the BCS poll. ND may end up losing that contract if/when the Big East gets dropped from the BCS automatic bids.. 12/1/2005 6:30:34 PM |

To hell w/ ND. Oregon deserves a Fiesta Bowl bid. Period. Their only loss is to USC and the crushed Standford (in Palo Alto). 12/1/2005 6:50:50 PM |

The thing ND has with the Big East has NOTHING to do with the BCS... it is only with the Gator/Insight bowls.. And the Big East can't legally lose their bid until after 2008. If they have teams like WVU and Louisville that finish in the Top 15 they won't either...

^i thought it it was based on the average final BCS ranking for four years. 12/1/2005 7:26:55 PM |

It is. They have a better average last 4 years then the ACC though. It has to be better then 12 I believe. The ACC asked the BCS to allow BC to be used for them last year 'just in case' because the ACC was close to losing the bid if they didn't have a Top 10 team last year (I posted an article about this in the past -- I'll find it at work tomorrow and repost it) and in turn the BCS allowed the Big East to use Louisville.
Think about the teams the Big East had the last 4 years before this. Miami, Miami, VT, Louisville.. all ranked very high. 12/1/2005 7:29:56 PM |

^ Hmm, looking at the numbers are very interesting, for this purpose I guess the ACC wants VT to win Saturday.
Big Twelve 3 2 1 7 2 Pacific Ten 3 1 3 4 4 Southeastern 3.25 3 2 3 5 Big East Conf 5.25 10 9 1 1 Big Ten Conf 6.5 12 4 2 8 Atlantic Coast 9.75 8 7 14 10
So the average coming in to this year, removing 2001, is:
Pacific Ten 2.67 Southeastern 2.67 Big Twelve 3.33 Big Ten 6 Big East 6.67 Atlantic Coast 9.67

It's also not AUTOMATIC that the BCS bid would be taken away. It simply legally COULD be taken away. Obviously, with the 3 teams the ACC got from the Big East it is much stronger then say 2 years ago. There is no way it would happen.
However, if the Big East somehow dipped below a 12 average it would be taken away I'm sure.. 12/1/2005 8:06:03 PM |

^^ I'm going to do two things. Assume the best. Assume the worst. For each conference. (best being VT winning the ACC, Texas winning the Big 12, USC beating UCLA, WVU beating USF, and LSU winning the SEC -- worst being the opposite (with some guestimations as to where that puts them in them in the BCS.)
BEST CASE FOR ALL
CONF '04 '03 '02 '05 AVG
Big Twelve 2 1 7 2 3.00 Pacific Ten 1 3 4 1 2.25 Southeastern 3 2 3 4 3.00 Big East Conf 10 9 1 11 7.75 Big Ten Conf 12 4 2 3 5.25 Atlantic Coast 8 7 14 5 8.50
WORST CASE FOR ALL (I'm going to put all unranked BCS teams at 25 just for consistency so this is very unofficial).
Big Twelve 2 1 7 25 8.75 Pacific Ten 1 3 4 9 (UCLA wins and moves up to 9 -- guess but won't skew it much) 4.25 Southeastern 3 2 3 10 (Georgia wins and moves up to 10 -- guess) 4.50 Big East Conf 10 9 1 16 (WVU loses and moves down 5 spots -- guess) 9.00 Big Ten Conf 12 4 2 3 5.25 Atlantic Coast 8 7 14 25 (FSU wins -- they MIGHT move in b/t 20-25 but more then likely would remain outside). 13.5
