Pretty good.

The career mode is a little taxing because you have to work your way a blacklist of 15 drivers to get to the real good cars.

For every driver you have to complete a series of 3-5 races in order to challenge him or her. After you beat them in a 2 series race you get the chance to pick 2 "tokens" which could result in their car or unique part/visual upgrades.

The graphics are okay too. They are based on the Need for Speed Underground engine.

One of the new features is Speedbreaker which resembles the bullet time mode in other games. You can use this to work your way around obstacles and police.

The main part of the game is free roaming around to the various races. Police are always around but they really aren't a big factor in this game. I bet 35% of them time do you have them chase you. It is fun though that if you are in a race and the police go after you, it carries back into the free roam area of the map, even after you complete the race.

NFSU2 had free roam and a large map. So are there any instances where you have to drive 10 minutes to get from one race location to the next? I remember hating NFSU2 every time a race appeared waaaay up in beacon hill and the next race to appear after I finished that one was waaaaay back at the airport.

You can now select any and all missions from the menu. So no need to free roam, unless you like to.

Also once you get to the later blacklist guys some of the missions that you have to do are pretty damn ridiculous. Get into a police chase that lasts 20 minutes, run through 15 roadblocks, cause $500,00 in damage, dodge 10 sets of spike strips, hit at least 50 cop cars and then when you've accomplished all that get away from the 15+ cop cars and helicopters that are chasing you down. It's not impossible, or really even that hard, just time consuming. Especially if you make one screwup and have to start over or get busted when you're 30+ minutes into a chase.

Good game though.

I have heard a few complaints about a rubber band AI. That no matter how well you drive and no matter what the CPU does up to that point the races will always come down to the last few turns. How good/bad is it?

After reading this thread: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/driving/needforspeedmostwanted/show_msgs.html?topic_id=24704511 I think I'll pass on the game.
