Does Winning Eleven have the premiership league and authentic rosters and all that good stuff?

If not, I've heard that FIFA is improved enough to give it a try.

no, but you can get the updated roster file from http://www.pesfan.com, it changes all rosters to current, changes all stadium names, corrects all logos, added proper league names, corrected tournament names, and makes it a flawless game

the gameplay in WE9 is rediculiously better than FIFA06

So you're going to need an action replay or whatever to pull off?

I'd want to avoid paying any extra costs just to get the names right.

Erm...WE9/PES5 has been out in Japan since August, but it doesn't come out in Europe until Dec. 31 and here until Feb. 28.

^ Then do it manually. It ain't no thang. It's one of the little joys when I get a new WE game.

its been out in europe for a couple of months now, thats how i have been playing it for a couple of months.

not sure what you're trying to say, but it involves just copying a file to your game folder. apparently the option file was removed from pesfan due to copyright notices, but i still have it somewhere

Virtua Tennis *IS* a great game.

I stopped playing FIFA after '03 (I think), when it was still hockey on grass. I got ahold of WE6 and never looked back. WE7 was a gigantic improvement, and WE8 refined the amazing base of 7. I'm really looking forward to the new game, especially since they secured the Arsenal license just in time to include the Woolwich Arsenal throwbacks.

why are you worried about arsenal getting the license when most of the other teams dont have it? Man Red? not a single authentic sponsored jersey?

here is the option file that replaces all of those for all teams

1. I think most of us in this thread are talking PS2.

2. Official licenses (or the lack thereof) don't really bother me. By most accounts, sponsors on the shirts are shitty anyway, and most of the variations from the classics these days are stupid accent stripes and squiggles (HELLOOOOOOOOOO Pompey). The option file is nice on PC since it's one step, but it's not worth doing any more than a little shirt tweaking and fixing all the names on PS2. One of the longtime arguments against WE is the lack of licenses, but I don't see why it's such a big deal to see a bunch of extra Carling and Emirates Air ads.

3. The Arsenal license is important because I haven't been able to get the shirt/number color just perfect on the 1918 jerseys in WE8.

we own both games at our apt, and religiously play winning eleven 8, its just better soccer gameplay, however the licensing aspect does suck a lil, but its a buncha lil guys on screen, if u know about soccer, u know who is who, the names are altered a lil

And, FWIW, the only places the player names are altered in WE8 are former players who don't fall under the FIFPro license or players who are licensed under their club names and as such have differently-named dopplegangers on the unlicensed national sides (Davids and Stam, for instance).

the point of the thread was to discuss FIFA 2006 vs Winning Eleven 8 (not 9)

im trying to decide which one i want to get, so i need to know which is better between these two ONLY
Gameplay
Graphics
Licenses
Glitches
Etc..

and only for the xbox or ps2 (no PC-i could give a shit about the PC version)

now bttt

Gameplay - WE8 by a nautical mile
Graphics - FIFA is a little more glossy, WE8's animations are far more realistic
Licenses - FIFA has them all, WE8 has FIFPro (players), the Spanish, Italian, and Dutch leagues and clubs, as well as the national licenses for Japan and South Korea
Glitches - I didn't play FIFA long enough to find any, though I know of one in WE8. If you have a player on the sidelines receiving treatment, the AI back line and linesman will use them to play someone onside, even though they're off the field. It only affects things once in a blue moon, but it's there.

WE8 is a vastly superior game if you're interested in playing soccer. If you want to bounce around a ball in the official Man U strip once a month, get FIFA.

No EPL, no Ligue 1 (France) or Bundesliga (Germany), and no official shirt licenses for national teams other than Japan and South Korea. There are a few random Russian/Argentinian clubs in the game that are unlicensed as well.

Also, FIFA '06 may not have a World Cup mode, for what it's worth. I haven't checked, but FIFA 2002 didn't have one because EA came out with "2002 FIFA World Cup" for PS2.

I played a couple of games of 2006 at a friend's house. Long enough to realize that it's still shit compared to WE in terms of playing the game. My point was that since 1998, EA has been omitting the World Cup mode from its FIFA games in WC years so it can sell a separate WC game, though I didn't check if this is the case with '06.

From what I saw (and even what these descriptions say), FIFA is still playing catch-up. This sentence in the review says it all:

Quote :
"The AI is improved with fewer instances of defenders running away from charging forwards or players not going after loose balls near the touchlines."

IT'S 2005! This should not have been happening, and to claim that it's a satisfactory AI improvement to not have defenders run away from the ball in any year after 1992 or so is a testament to just how shitty the game was before.

If you want to buy FIFA, buy FIFA, but don't complain when you have to go back and buy WE a week from now to play a decent game of soccer.

i dont know why you are getting all upset over this. i was asking for a comparison between the two games from people who played them regularly. i understand your point of view, however, you yourself said you only played this a few times. i dont know how you can get so heated over this when you have BARELY even played the game in the first place.

Partly because I'm bored, partly because WE is the only game I play outside of Guitar Hero, and partly because FIFA is a piece of shit soccer game in a pretty package. There is no flow, there is no realism, it's a poor representation of the game. FIFA is improving in fits and starts to the place where WE5 was at in terms of gameplay, while Konami continues to refine WE's play and animation to the point where every time I get a new WE game, I marvel at the little animation tweaks they've done to those not involved in the play, etc.

I don't play FIFA on a regular basis, but I know those who do (they like the arcade-style play of FIFA more), and so I go over and play a few games every year to see how the game has progressed. I have never been impressed with a FIFA game, and I wasn't impressed even before I knew about WE. The gameplay style was truly a revelation when I first tried it (through MLS ExtraTime, by far the worst of the American versions).

Even now, FIFA is closer to hockey-on-grass than soccer. They've incorporate some good things, like making the ball independent from the player's feet, but WE has been using it for so much longer, the implementation is miles ahead. Flatly, WE is a better soccer game. I'll leave it at that.

ive never played WE games before and have always played FIFA. However, this year, i heard about how good the new WE game was and just wanted to know the differences.

now not being able to play with club teams is an issue for me.

do you know if there is a way to update teh rosters?

The club teams are there, they just have names like "North London" and "Man Blue" instead of Arsenal and Manchester City. The names are easy to edit. The rosters have the real names, though they are indeed out of date to the point of when the game came out. I'm sure there's a file you can get, even for the XBox version, that will update everything, but I do it manually so I don't know where to find it. Try pesfan.com.

why are we even comparing an old game with a new one, when a new version of WE is due out for your dumb consoles soon anyway?

i'll stick with a PC though, where i can play with resolution higher than the 360 can even output, i have 4 wireless rumblepad controllers, and can easily input the modified option file, output replays, etc

consoles are for kids

i know for a fact that you paid more than it cost me to rent 3 games for a week. However, im very glad you spent 2,000 on a worthwhile gaming pc and then paid $20-50 per game. Good job dood, really.

oh, and if you really think that the reason why your games are lowering in cost isn't due to the PC Game industry getting its ass kicked by the console industry, then you should really do your homework.

lets just face teh facts man, consoles are and always will be more affordable, no they will not always have the best graphics in the industry, however, what sells is what is affordable and until you can rent PC games, the PC game industry is gonna be hurtin

and no, i didnt pay 2000 for my PC, either. I bought a used video card from a friend for $50, and a monitor for $250. everything else is several years old.

how does the PC industry get it's "ass kicked" when the same games are out for both markets?

cmon man, its just common business, more ppl are going to buy console games than PC games

you know this, i dont know why you are arguing with me

the more ppl that buy console games, the less ppl that buy PC games which = lower revenue generated for the PC titles which = less production for future pc titles which = smaller interest from developers to make PC titles
