he is the fifth richest person in the world.
his welath has climbed faster than bill gates' or the sultan of brunei's ever did.
i like him because unlike all the other saudi princes, his wealth is self-made (of course, he must have been given a couple o hundred million at the beginning, which he has invested and turned into 20 billion).
he owns like 5-20% of several american companies, including citibank, apple, dkny, all the inn chains, etc.
he is the one who offered $10 million to nyc after 9-11, but rudy guiliani turned it down, because the prince said that the israeli occupation of palestine was fueling terrorism.

wait
maybe i missunderstood
when did he say that in relation to when he offered the money.
If he was trying to make a political statement out of the aftermath then i would have told him to fuck off.
if thats just his stance and he just offered the money I would have taken it. 12/13/2005 3:02:03 PM |

The impression I got from the majority of the media sources (waaay back when it was popular to talk about this stuff) was that the money and the political comment were in pretty close proximity to one another, and that was probably why they refused the money. 12/13/2005 3:03:26 PM |

It is to an extent. But whether or not it's a major driving force is a big question.12/13/2005 3:11:22 PM |

Agreed. I would think that the rather screwed up political and economic climate of the Middle East is fueling terrorism. Israel, who's actions have only further provoked an already pissed off crowd, simply is the most visible, most obvious, and most convenient target for all that hatred and fury (followed by the United States).
Nothing wrong with the gifts.12/13/2005 3:32:38 PM |
