Anyone know how/where to find these bolts easily and cheaper than dealer prices?

It's a '99 Honda Rebel 250.
I know I could go to Lowes or Ace or somewhere like that and look through all those bins... just wondering if anyone on here knew what they'd be called. Those damn bins are such a pain if you're not completely sure of what you're looking for.
[Edited on December 13, 2005 at 9:57 PM. Reason : there's a picture in my gallery of where i'm talking about... pretty much the same bike] 12/13/2005 9:56:46 PM |

Go to the dealer. I doubt Lowes will have the metric fine thread bolts that I would think the manifold bolts would be. A fastener distributor might have them. I think Capital Fasteners is a good place to try.
If they are studs the dealer is really going to be the best bet.

specifically what bolt is it? 12/13/2005 10:00:44 PM |

It's up on front... holds the lock washer on.... there are two on each side for each muffler
does that make sense? I don't really know the terminology to explain it to you all that well. 12/13/2005 10:01:37 PM |

it's not in that picture.... it's on the side where the arrow points to the front... you can see those two large holes... and a screw hole next to one of them... that's where they go. there are 2 on each side... 12/13/2005 10:02:41 PM |

werd. personally i would try the dealer. it would be the quickest possible. may not be the cheapest. it might though, ive had bolts at ace/lowes cost the same, even more than the dealership.
13 on which picture?
[Edited on December 13, 2005 at 10:05 PM. Reason : if its the 2nd pic, then try a hardware store] 12/13/2005 10:04:35 PM |

werd. that clears things up.
if you can get the thread size and shizzle then you can hit up the store. or goto stealership. 12/13/2005 10:06:11 PM |

hmm... ok. it's such a pain with the Rebel 250 though. they jack up the price on everything because they know they can... and they don't ever have anything in stock... so you're out of luck for a while. I guess i'll have to call Powersports in the morning. Thanks for the help, though. 12/13/2005 10:06:15 PM |

studs are 6x29 mm, $1.50 each, acorn nuts are $2 each all at cost, thats honda for ya, $texas parts
my dad is a dealer for WOP, he gets about 40% off, but it would take about a week to get it in and not have to pay shipping, it might be worth a few bucks, not to wait that long though, list price for all four studs and nuts is about $25, 6mm fine thread is really common though, check with burke brothers on hillborough, they have a lot of metric stainless fasteners

yeah. but what's that thing called? it's like a nut, but not a regular old fashioned one. 12/13/2005 10:07:19 PM |

and they have stainless acorn nuts there, its not as pretty as the chrome, but its cheaper and readily availible 12/13/2005 10:10:15 PM |

please tell me they at least had the gasket in stock there, every damn honda uses one of two sizes
and what is wrong with the old studs? rust?

I dunno about the gasket... haven't had a need for one. It took three weeks to get a damn headlight for the thing, though. But in the mean time I bugged one of the guys at the shop in N.Raleigh so much that he gave me his employee discount on it If I were actually going to keep it for a while I would've upgraded to the halogen bulbs... but I plan on upgrading next season. Tires for it are impossible to find, too. One of the tires is only made by one or two companies. 12/13/2005 10:16:10 PM |

The old studs are fine... it's just the acorn nuts. Two of them either rattled off, or got taken off while it was parked over the break. I have to take I40 to work... and it started sounding bad... and then on the way back home it got 100 times worse... the lock washer had finally worked itself all the way off the studs. 12/13/2005 10:17:51 PM |

so is it leaking because the bolts are loose or the gasket is burned out? dont run it too long like that, unless you want it to burn a piston or valve, doesnt take much to lean those out way too much 12/13/2005 10:17:55 PM |

oh, shit then, thats an easy fix, just go to burke brothers, get some regular old open ended nuts for now, and let it roll. just be real careful not to overtorque them and break the studs off
[Edited on December 13, 2005 at 10:21 PM. Reason : get two of every 6mm thread pitch they have, and you're set] 12/13/2005 10:19:37 PM |

Yeah. I don't know what i've done to it, honestly. I heard the rattle on my way in to work... thought it sounded bad because it was every time I opened the throttle, so I called my boyfriend... he said it sounded like one of two things and that it shouldn't be a big deal... and to just ride it back home. About 3/4 of the way back it started sounding like complete shiiit... but I was in 5PM traffic on I40 East... Aka... pulling to the side wasn't really an option. It's been parked ever since. I really hope I didn't do any major damage. 12/13/2005 10:22:04 PM |
