I couldn't care less what people choose to call this time of year, nor what they wish to worship. I really don't care if someone puts up a sign. As long as they aren't tying me up and pushing me into a church and forcing me to believe something, I don't care. What's the deal with people getting so easily offended these days?
PS - Anyone who wishes to let Amanda know that she doesn't have to let everything offend her and that the world isn't out to get here can reach her here:

they shouldn't have said, "jesus is the reason for the season" that actually is kind of offensive. But knowing this woman, she probably would've complained even if they'd just said, "merry christmas" so screw her. 12/14/2005 2:33:50 PM |

its a sign of how great our society actually is when we have to fight battles about christmas sign on mcdonalds

some people just need to learn how to pick their battles. You can't go around throwing hissy fits at every sign that offends you and expect to have a respected argument. There is no war on CHristmas, and there is no war on Kwanza, or Chanuka, or any other holiday in December. The fucking McDonalds has a right to put whatever holiday message up that they want, religious or not. Nobody is making you eat there, or take the sign seriously. Fuck, I hate people. 12/14/2005 4:12:47 PM |

that one dude on fox news even wrote a damn book on it
why does the media always try to conjour(sp?) up stories like that, all they do is incite more public rage over a stupid topic cause people see newscasters devoting a ton of time to it

^^ Yes and Yes.
I'd imagine after seeing this "War on Christmas" crap all over the news, she felt a certain sense of empowerment that compelled her to act, whereas in past years she did not. What does this lady do when she drives down the street and sees a nativity scene? Does she stop and ask them to take it down?
And you know her husband is pissed about this stupid shit. 12/14/2005 5:57:40 PM |

In the past, people lived in small communities where they could easily be mocked and shunned for acting retarded. As communities grew, a sense of anonymity came with it. People who were always picked last in dodgeball, not because of poor athleticism, but because they just suck at life and nobody liked them, often feel left out in our large society. The only way for them to get the attention that they crave so much is to act like a fucking retard. No longer having to fear long-term mockery enables them to do things that they normally wouldn't consider in a smaller community where they would receive their just deserts.
The lesson folks, is that these people should be treated horribly.12/14/2005 5:59:25 PM |

Uh... Jesus is the reason for the Christmas season.
I mean what other reason is there? Some minor backwater holiday on the Jewish calendar? Surely not some psudo-religous African harvest festive that's only been around since the 60s? It's a christian holiday. Deal with it. Can I start bitching that I find atheisim offensive? 12/14/2005 9:43:59 PM |

just talked to my mom who is good friends with the owner and was with her tonight
cnn has called, she is going to talk to them tomorrow.
she has talked with the woman, who she said was extremely rude.
carol (owner) asked her what she could do to make her happy. the only thing would be to take the sign down.
the word "jesus" offends her.
while there my mom said 20 people had come inside to thank carol, a person on behalf of a church came by with flowers, and a bus is coming from smithfield tomorrow. l
all this from a merry christmas/ jesus is the reason for the season sign. 12/14/2005 9:58:05 PM |

The fact that it does say "Merry Christmas" before saying "Jesus is the reason for the season" seems pretty clear to indicate that they are referring to the Christmas holiday and not anything else. Christmas, no matter how commercialized and perverted its become, is here because of Jesus. Its no different than what I have seen at some ethnic restaurants around their religious holidays. Nothing that would offend me, in fact, I like seeing people celebrate their faith, whatever it may be.

^Christmas traditions predate Jesus (Christmas trees, gifts, maybe even egg nog). The only thing Jesus has to do with Christmas is the word "Christ" and the fact that people attribute Jesus to Christmas. 12/15/2005 12:10:23 AM |

No one is committing adultery in the oval office this year and they have to distract everyone from the political liability of the war and half a dozen other things with something.
Back on subject. I agree. People these days are far too PC. Back in the day any time less than 2% of the nation did not agree with the other 98% no one cared. Today that 2% dictates what the 98% can and can't do. There will always be a 2% that don't agre with something. Heck now it is almost as if one person can bring everyone to their knees. I wonder if the person(s) that are offended truly are or are they just trying to get their face on the news. I believe that it is the latter in most cases.
There has to be some point where the crap reaches critical mass. Where the one guy surfaces to be offended at the drop of a hat and the rest of us just shrug it off.

oh come on
as if the owner of this mcdonalds didn't put this sign up as a counter-shot in the "war on christmas"
you'll NEVER convince me that he or she put it up innocently and was then surprised to get all the controversy.. and you're a goddamn fool if you think that.
so, therefore, everyone's argument in defense of this sign is moot, because you've been defending a christmas sign. This wasn't a christmas sign. It was a deliberate counter-attack in the "war on christmas" 12/15/2005 8:08:09 AM |

theres an actual Billboard near my house that says "Jesus is the reason for the season" then at the bottom it has like 3 business names (1 is a car dealership). i thought it was pretty funny, but gettin offended enough to actually complain is retarded. it's not like McDonalds is a state owned business. thats like complaining that the sign in front of a church is offensive if it has the same thing written.
BTW, this woman is probably fat. 12/15/2005 11:43:26 AM |

Dear Amanda,
Perhaps your ancestors should have given it more thought than just, "Hey, let's kill him!"
Now he's a martyr and a central figure it one of the world's largest religions, and his birthday party is more fun and easier to pronounce than your holiday (yes, we're aware that you give gifts for 7 days. However, I imagine it takes about a week for a jew to convince themselves to give something away for free).
Thanks 12/15/2005 12:52:28 PM |

So, it seems that most people in this thread, regardless of their own religious preferences, all agree that this type of behavior is becoming more than an annoyance and could be interpreted as a desire for change.
What can we do to stop this PC madness. Right now, we have only agreed that it sucks and are complaining that we don't like it. What type of action can we take to show that we are tired of people being whiny little bitches? 12/15/2005 12:55:49 PM |
