Unlucky schedule, I know.....
but after looking ahead on our basketball schedule, we play a home game vs. George Washington (who will definitely make the NCAA tourney) on the same day as our Bowl game.
Sucks for our B-ball team because this is arguably the best non-conference matchup we have all season, even including that Shitty Iowa game.
Hopefully our stadium will be somewhat filled up for this, but i honestly highly doubt it.
Dont get me wrong, the bowl game is WAY more important, it just stinks for our b-ball team to play in a stadium that wont have any students there because of Chirstmas break to begin with and the rest only 1/3 filled because the die-hards will be in Charlotte.

No, but they've at least won something.

Ok, let me elaborate since apparently not everyone could make the evidently wide leap of rationality from my previous statement.
No bowl game is worthless to the schools involved. The fact that we got a bowl game is big. Granted, it's not a prestigeous bowl game, and it's one of the lowest paying bowl games, but it still means big $$$ for the school, exposure, it's a valid recruitment tool, etc, etc, etc. If it is so worthless, they why were so many schools fighting for it? why are so many teams that won 6+ games so angry they didn't even get into a "toilet" bowl?? 12/14/2005 4:06:22 PM |
DaveOT All American 11945 Posts user info edit post |
I'm not saying there's no benefit to making a bowl game.
But face it, there's the NC game, and then there's a shitload of consolation games.
The basketball tourney used to have those, too. 12/14/2005 4:07:54 PM |

i'm not saying there is no benefit to being in a bowl, rather the outcome doesnt matter except for recruiting. and the beat s fla in the car care bowl isnt a huge recruiting tool.
and if it werent for revenue sharing, we would lose money going to this bowl 12/14/2005 4:12:58 PM |

The bowl game is NOT meaningless because of the extra practices we get. 20+ extra practices is extremely important especially with the way the NCAA limits everything. Granted the outcome of the bowl game is not that important, but its the sidebar stuff that is important. 12/14/2005 5:07:28 PM |

Herb mentioned during his radio show on 12/5 that there is hope for the game time being changed. He said there are some issues because of George Washington and it being a TV game, but he said Fowler is working on it. 12/14/2005 5:50:20 PM |

During the pregame show, Fowler mentioned that a game time move is still possible and we will know by Friday morning at the latest. One possibility even included having the womens game against GW at 4PM on the 30th at the RBC followed by the mens game at 7PM. FOX Sports Net is working on finding a way to do a move, but what is probably making this harder is that the game is also on Comcast Sports Net in the Washington area. 12/14/2005 9:15:16 PM |

Where are you guys getting that we MAKE money from playing in a bowl game?
Unless you play in a big bowl, it COSTS money to play in a bowl game.
The expenses outweigh the payout, everyone knows that. 12/15/2005 12:01:11 PM |

rallydurham is correct although most people will hate to admit it.
Also 750K is peanuts compared to what each school gets regardless of record. The ACC has revenue sharing..
Quote : | "Money: Currently the ACC parcels out close to $10 million annually to each school in revenue sharing, meaning any three teams that join would need to generate close to $30 million per year just to keep the ACC at its current position. What happens if Miami football has a dip? What happens in years without a second BCS team? What if the economy starts driving down the cost of television packages, however unlikely that may seem?" |
rwoody also made a good point. However, it matters not WHICH teams make the bowl games but rather how many teams make bowl games. We get the same money whether we go 6-5 and are bowl eligible or UNC goes 6-5 and is bowl eligible..

FYI, the Houston Cougers had a home basketball game against North Texas that conflicted with their bowl game in Fort Worth. Houston actually had the game moved to an earlier start time and to North Texas (losing a home game) so fans could attend both the bowl game and the basketball game. Herb can't move the bball game to Charlotte, but he is trying to move the game to a later start time. We'll see what happens. 12/15/2005 9:08:13 PM |
