So, I test drove a customers car today...90' 300ZX Twin Turbo. OMF. I've never really been a fan of these cars..until today....

The car pulls like a damn crotch rocket. Running 14lbs of boost, that thing threw my head in the back of the seat with each gear change. I know there are plenty of faster cars out there, but i was definately surprised at how beastly this car is. In 2nd gear, I put the pedal to the floor and those turbos came to life. The rearend broke traction and I almost did a donut in the middle of the goddamn road. About 30 seconds after I got it straightened back up and on my way, about 3 highway patrol cars zoomed by me, lol. I got lucky.

that is all. flame away.

did u just say it pulls like a damn crotch rocket?

number 1: ur not riding by the seat of your pants
number 2: impossible on 14lbs
number 3: drive a faster car.

i could understand if you thought it was fast because you drive a honda accord. believe me it happens to me all the time when i drive someone elses car.

ok, so the kid 'test drove a customers car' and thought it was fast, so it seemed fast to him and im pretty damn sure it was

so 'pulls like a crotch rocket' wasnt exactly the best choice of words

i seriously doubt that anything he said was 'impossible on 14lbs'

i cant tell if youre really being serious with that sad flow of thoughts or just trying to be an ass to start something.

I think 300ZX TT's come with 300HP ... nothing a normal sports sedan these days can't handle.

i've dreamed of owning 1 of thse thigns since they came out. they are overlooked way too often in favor of supras,rx-7s,evos etc. it's true these things are fat pigs and most can't put down crazy numers on a dyno, but i love em. stock boost on the z is only 9psi so i'm guessing he had at least a jimwolf chip(changes the boost to 14lbs) and an intake+ exhaust to free things up. w/ those mods he was probaly close to 320hp to the wheels and i'm pretty sure most poeple(including me) haven't driven a car w. that much power.

dude, my S2000 has VERY close to that much power, and weighs what, 700 lbs less?

and i don't think it's all that fast

i mean, it's an entertaining car, but it's DEFINITELY not like "HOLY SHIT" when you hit the gas...not even the first time i drove it (although my miata was faster, and i've ridden a bazillion miles on "crotch rockets", so i was already desensitized). the sensation is more like "well, this is how much power Honda should've given it from the factory."

of course MOST people haven't driven a car with that much power...but i'd hope that most "car guys" have.

well, i didnt mean that it literally pulled like a bike...but it's the closest iv'e been to it in a car...

I dont have a chance to drive a car with roughly 320whp on a normal basis...so to me, it WAS "HOLY SHIT"....like i said, flame away, but it was definately a fun time for me. Just thought I'd share.

according to 1/4mile timeslips, my NA 240sx is neck and neck with an H22 accord, if that tells you how slow it was

I've always wanted a 300zx TT, specifically a '95. I love the looks of the later spoiler they put on there... the whole car is very aggressive to me. It probably isn't as good of a straight line platform as its Japanese competitors, but I like it anyway.

Btw, did this have stock turbos? I'm really starting to hate twin turbo setups actually. Everyone I know who has had a twin turbo car (Rx-7, Vr-4, Supra) is constantly troubleshooting boost leaks.

Guess I should have mentioned that....NO, they were not the stock turbos.

It also had 18" chrome rims (heavy I know, but gave it a pretty nice look) and an aftermarket spoiler and ground effects. It really looked nice. Not at all riced out looking...

looked almost exactly like this but with 18" chromes and black in color.

This is what the front bumper looked like

95 is the worst year of all because chips are not avaliable. at least when i had my 92tt they were not. 14lbs of boost is correct for one with the wolf chip, exhaust, and twin pops. with that set up wolf claims 396 to the flywheel. mine was way beyond this so i cant give an accurate idea of what it actualy is to the wheels. but i would say take away 15-20% being a 5 speed and you are close to the 320 number.

that car is not fast. esp with that set up. i am not sure why tnezami is makeing such a big deal about it. with the above set up you lose most all turbo lag so it feels peppy but nothing to write home about. z's are just to heavy and thats why it hit the road as soon as i could find someone dumb enough to pay the money for it.

trouble shooting boost leaks in a tt z is not common. nor have i heard it being a problem in tt cars. just because 2 people have had a problem doesnt mean it prone to the problem.

i'm sure there are faster cars out there. This car did not have the stock turbos. I dont have any idea how much whp it was putting out..but i'm assuming a bit more than stock.

Dont hate.

hell, my first ride in a 4.10, hypertech'd, SLP MAF LS1car was rather awakening, and that's probably close to 320whp (and probably more torque than the VG30)...but the C6 vert was a bit more of a kick on the way to HOOTERS, esp with the whole weight deal...5th gear in the C6 more than inched away from 3rd in the formula (auto)...and i'd bet on both of those taking the z

^ the z was never intended for straigt line perfomance even the fastest streeable zs barely get under 11 second range with tons of wo4k and $

if he had upgraded turbos i'd imagine he had a few more upgrades than just a couple bolt ons. and 14lbs of boost on stock turbos is different from 14lbs on some sport 500s. that said he may have ben doing anywhere from 320-400hp.
duke what mods you got on the s2000? i'm sure the z puts a bit more torque which probaly makes it feel faster too.

Comptech exhaust, Comptech supercharger with aftercooler

and yeah, he makes substantially more torque (and slightly more power). it might be close over the 1/4 mile due to the S2000's launching woes (which don't get better with a supercharger, b/c then you have clutch slip to contend with), but I should walk away easily from a roll.

But my car still isn't really what I'd call FAST. it's more like "what a sports car ought to be like".
