There is no reason the NSA wouldnt have let the courts have their normal oversight if something fishy wasnt going on.
All you have to do is report the wire taps ect 72hrs after you initiate them to the special secretive courts.
republican talking points:
-some senators knew about it (still doesnt make it legal)
-he re-authorized the program several times (still doesnt make it legal)

The program which bush admitted was in place HAD THE NSA DO THIS SECRETLY WITHOUT TELLING ANY COURTS OR JUDGES.
Face it, your boy is getting impeached.

here i thought we were a country of LAWS.

Quote : | "According to those officials and others, reservations about aspects of the program have also been expressed by Senator John D. Rockefeller IV, the West Virginia Democrat who is the vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, and a judge presiding over a secret court that oversees intelligence matters. Some of the questions about the agency's new powers led the administration to temporarily suspend the operation last year and impose more restrictions, the officials said." |
Rockafeller IS the judge whose approval they need. he knew about it and was part of it. he was briefed all the time about it. it was legal

Former chief council to the NSA said yesterday that the law is ambiguous and if it were ever taken to the supreme court there's a good chance it would be ruled illegal, but he also said since the parties are usually never notified the search was performed, nobody would ever take it to court. 12/17/2005 10:58:07 AM |

^^ warrantless eavesdropping = ILLEGAL
its funny you dont even have a rebuttal for that.
so what if some judge knew about it. no warrent, no approval from the proper court, not legal.

4th Amendment for any idiots claiming that this is legit.
"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."
Love my country. Fear my government. It's time to put Bush, Cheney, Rice, and Rumsfeld on the stand.

What is Condi trying to say?
Here, she's smack-talking FISA, saying it's not good enough, trying to explain why the Pres. had to do what he did:
Quote : | "SEC'Y RICE: Tim, the circumstances of FISA relate to rather more stable targets, people who are principally acting on behalf of governments. These are stateless networks of people who communicate and communicate in much more fluid ways and where the urgency of detecting where the importance of not letting it happen is far greater than I think anything that would have been envisioned in 1978, before we saw the twin towers and the Pentagon go down. " |
Then here, she is saying it's what allowed him to do what he did:
Quote : | "SEC'Y RICE: Tim, the president has authorities under FISA, which we are using and using actively. He also has constitutional authorities that derive from his role as commander in chief and his need to protect the country. He has acted within his constitutional authority and within statutory authority." |
Is that a flip-flop?12/18/2005 8:10:24 PM |

Quote : | "“It is legal to do so. I swore to uphold the laws. Legal authority is derived from the Constitution,” Bush added. " |
I love how he just says "it's in the constitution" and doesn't say where. How hard would it be to say "article X, Y and Z give us authority"? Of course he can't say that because it's not true. He's just banking on dumb americans lapping it up like the rest of the shit he spews because they're too damn ignorant to know any better. 4th amendment will hold here. No doubt about it.
Quote : | "the president asked that Americans “not give up on this fight for freedom.”" |
yeah, roll over and let this administration spy on you but don't give up on freedom! We won't have it here after Bush is through but maybe we can give it to the Iraqi people.
Quote : | ""It was a shameful act for someone to disclose this important program in a time of war. The fact that we’re discussing this program is helping the enemy"" |

I think he's relegated himself to doing press conferences every half day to defend his every action. You could take all the pictures of him that go up on cnn.com's homepage every hour and make a flipbook.
