I went to the 05 fest. It was great. Great vibe - great way to discover new bands/Dj's. The 05 fest was very very well organized.

I discovered -
Arcade Fire
Matthew Dear
Miss Kitten
Nine Inch Nails

Got to see finally -
Hernan Cattaneo
Chemical Brothers (Awesome live set)
Josh Wink <-- The muthafucking man. Brilliant set
Tiga.

I'm hooked - Will go every year , have already booked my room .

As a resident of Austin - based on 2 years of SWSX expereince.. I think Coachella has no worries.

SWSX is for bar hopping and looking cool (Look Ma i'm listining to "underground" music").
Coachella has some "preen" factor to it..but overall much better vibe..it feels like a festival.
SWSX feels like a bar romp...

January 20, 2006, 10:24 am - Coachella
I've have had a few e-mails sent to me over the NME.com article on Smashing Pumpkins playing in April at Coachella. I just wanted to say, this is a rumour started from a photoshopped image on the Coachella's official website. So please don't get your hopes up for SP to be playing there.

I've also heard rumours of them playing the summer concerts in Europe. But there isn't any hard proof of that either yet. So once something more official comes out, I'll post it on the web site.

thats from iha's site

i'm on a mailing list for a radio station out here in so cal. got this email today:
Quote :
"91X has confirmed Depeche Mode headlining Saturday and The Smashing Pumpkins reuniting Sunday! But 91X has all the answers Monday morning when Cantore announces the official line-up and we give you the first shot at winning free 91X tickets all week long!

If you already asked for the Coachella weekend off and plan on going no matter what the line-up is, you can buy your tickets first with the 91X Internet pre-sale. It starts today (1/25) at 10:00 A.M. and is good until Friday (1/27) at 10:00 P.M. Click HERE. Password is SEVEN. ..."

2 tickets with ticketmaster fees = $380.40
i wouldn't have to pay airfare, but would need to get a hotel for 1 (or 2 nights). seems awfully expensive. i'm a huge pumpkins fan and have seen them before... including a festival in canada where i also saw the foo fighters and the deftones... and those tickets cost like $30.
public sale starts Feb 4th so i gotta decide.

I'll just wait until all of these bands come closer to NC and then pick my battles. 30 years from now I won't care if I saw SP on their first reunion date or their 20th.

Madonna got booed coz she started like 20 min late. Daft delivered the festival IMHO. It kinda went like this..

Imagine a huge tent packed with 50K people.

If you see the videos there was pyramid which had lights on the sides. The show started with the lights going off playing to the "Close Encounters of the third kind" tune. Crowd shat..

The Curtains opened and to the sounds of "Robot Rock" , Daft punk in the center of the pyramid wearing robot helmets..Crowd went bezerk...

Played for about 20 min...10 sec lul and then opening notes to "One more time" mashed with "Digital Love"...the tent just went nuts!!!!!!!!!!!

It's so dumb that their one appearance in six years and probably for six more, was about as far away as you can get from here and at the most crowded music festival of the year!!!!!!!!

^ considering no smaller venue shows ever start on time, I think booing Madonna for it is a bit extreme.

Daft punk bootleg http://p073.ezboard.com/fgoldenvoicefrm9.showMessage?topicID=5088.topic

Review - http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/features/live/festivals/coachella06/

Quote :
"That is not to say some of the main-stagers were not up to snuff. Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Kanye West, and Massive Attack all performed predictably entertaining if not overwhelming sets. The exception to the headliner rule, and probably to anything said above, was Daft Punk's mindblowing appearance. Not to get hyperbolic, but people were crying at two French robots. Yes, chemicals may have played a part, but Bangalter and Homem-Christo deserve much of the credit for creating a relentless, dynamic live show based around two dudes standing in front of equipment. A towering LED pyramid; dizzying light show; hilariously choreographed camera movements for the screenwatchers; and, of course, an exhausting selection from their catalogue, sequenced on a seemingly impossible upward trajectory for a solid hour. Heart-attack shit. And for all those who argued Human After All's worthlessness: You were wrong.

It's nice to see more people realizing how awesome daft punk is. All their live sets are like this, totally unbelievable. Even from Bangalter's early live stuff, to Alive 1997 (if you haven't heard this CD, you should as soon as possible, but make sure you listen to "homework" first) to their early live performance in LA, to their tokyo performance post-robo, to their latest touring, all kick ass.
