"inspired by true events" is so loosely used these days that doesn't mean anything. As far as you can tell, there might be one character in the movie that was murdered in a building one day, and that's the true event for the movie.

I read a reveiw online about this movie and it looks outa control. Depending on if they want it NC-17 or R though. Lions Gate Films are associated with it, they did SAW and SAW 2 right.

i read somewhere that the true events it refers to are different tales of international drug trafficking, slavery rings, and all sorts of crazy criminal behavior. so yea, inspired by true events doesn't mean anything. sounds like they just took the worst crime stories and combined them to gross us out. let's hope it works.

"The trailers bill the movie as "inspired by true events." Director Eli Roth says that he found a Thai website that advertised itself as a "murder vacation," offering users the chance to torture and kill someone for the price of $10,000. Roth later showed the site to Quentin Tarantino and the two developed the idea for the film. Tarantino and Roth said later on an Icelandic talk show that they have no idea if the website was real or not."

From IMDB. They also claimed that the Texas Chainsaw Massacre was "Inspired by a True Story"

I know about Ed Gein. The point was that it is still a loose relation to the story as is pointed out by the page you referred to.

Thats what one of the new commercials for the movie says, though I'm not sure I entirely believe it. Or at least believe it in the sense that its so scary it will give you seizures.

there are several classics that used gein as inspiration; wasn't Psycho even credited to his legend?

people vomited and needed medical attention at readings of "Guts" by Chuck Palaniuk too...

some people just have weak stomachs... it isn't necessarily a qualification of the work itself...

What the hell does that even mean? It's like they paid him $10,000 to put his name on the tab. Same with "Hero."

He's executive producer and "presenter". He worked with the director in the concept of the movie. He may have been given the role of executive producer since he was going to be involved in the movie and they wanted to use his name in the promotions.

This movie is going to rock. I am going to see it opening day. I hope somebody throws up in the theater and we all get our money back. If that happens, I am just going to use that money to see it again.

i may be wrong, but i am betting that this movie is kind of tame. i mean it may be more messed up than a usual horror but fucked up in movie standards is still pretty tame. my fucked-up-shit-o-meter is pretty high, so i am betting it isnt that bad

yeah, as far as gore goes i dont think it would threaten my stomach, after watching some of the cannibal movies, itch the killer, and other gore flicks. it'll all depend on the atmosphere, the horror of what is actually occurring, and how well they get it across.

I heard Tarantino makes a cameo in this film. Kind of like he did in Sin City.

I'll see it cause I like shocking/gross stuff. But I haven't noticed that very little realy horrifies me anymore. I thank tv news and real life murderers for that...
Last movie that people said was beyond disturbing that made me yawn was 8MM.
Maybe it's cause I'm from NY,lol.
