it says I should have 407, but when I e-mailed the professor, he pretty much just said that modular arithmetic is big and it should be the first thing covered in 407 (which I'll be taking next semester.) I think I could pick up the basics pretty quickly, but how much is the rest and how doable do you think this is? 12/23/2005 8:24:22 AM |

I'm not sure how Hartwig is for Ma 437, but for Ma 520 Dr. Hartwig teaches a more difficult course than some of the other professors here. It was a real struggle for me and I got an A+ in the prerequisite. On the other hand, since Ma 437 is an undergraduate course it may well be managable. I'd leave room to drop it if need be. Hartwig is very funny in his own way. 12/23/2005 10:14:56 AM |

I had hartwig for 407 and it took me forever to make sense of anything he did in class. I would think about maybe putting 437 off until next semester to see if someone else teaches it. 12/23/2005 9:12:44 PM |

the problem is there are practically no courses for me to take next semester that are either remotely interesting, at a reasonable time, or in a slot that isn't already filled in my schedule. I was trying to get as many math courses in this semester as I could and take word-related courses over the summer. So... does anybody know of any sci/tech/soc courses that are easy as hell? 12/26/2005 2:28:36 PM |
