i built my computer about 3 months ago and it works great, but i recently moved in home and the fan on the motherboard has started making a loud noise. this isn't the heatsink fan, but the smaller blue one below it.

i'm not sure what it's cooling, but i have no idea how to make it quieter. if i gently press the fan while its running, then it actually speeds up and runs quiet. i've tried using a light oil, but that doesn't seem to help. any ideas?

It's cooling your northbridge chip, and you can buy a fanless version from Zalman off of Newegg.

Hah, had the same problem on my motherboard last year. Called up abit and they referred me to an online retailer (forgot the name) who carried the exact same fan for the nb. Ordered it for around $10 plus tax and shipping. Few months later, same problem, fan was acting up and making noises. Just unplugged the fan and no problems so far.
