i have been apart of the work force for 5 years since out of college yo
this is the first company where we are expected to work overtime w/ no comp time or overtime pay ( i understand that salaried people dont get overtime pay)

but this guy doesnt give us any christmas bonus, hand shake or fuck you for the effort to put 400k into his pocket a year

If you aren't salaried, then it is illegal to not pay you overtime for any hours past 40. If you are salaried, you should not expect to get overtime. Some companies pay it (Salaried non-exempt), but not many.

I am assuming that your previous positions were hourly?

shitty pay, retail sucks, no set "get off" hours, Management are bitches. The only reason it gets a 2 is because I get a 40% discount.
The other day I went in at 2pm, that night I was scheduled to leave at 8, she said "I need you till eleven", I siad no problem, I went home at 3:30am. No extra compensation either.

no, never been an hourly employee upon graduation
and have hardly had to work overtime

but i received comp time for overtime issues....when you travel on business trips and your work days are close to 12 hours...you should get something in return

for instance, i had to go to a Cardinal Health National Sales Meeting a few weeks ago.
i had to fly down for the day, i left raleigh on the first flight out to Orlando (6:15AM) didnt get back to RDU until 10:30 / home after 11 and back to work at 8am

now thats a like a 17 hour work day when it was all said and done....other companies would give you a paid day off for travel like that, this guy expects you to work like a dog for pennies.
now if he paid what i should be making, i would work all the overtime he wanted and wouldnt bitch about it


im going in for a 3rd interview, Friday week and this job will double my salary...so i look forward to working hard and putting in overtime b/c they wanna pay me a lot of money

I'd have to say my current job is an 7

8 for my starting salary
2 for freedoms (no internet usage )
5 for perks (no free extravagant business lunches)
7 for cool co-workers (not my age, and not attractive at all )
5 for benefits ($25/week for health and dental, no eye coverage )
6 for vacation days (holiday schedule sucks, but I start out with 2 weeks vacation/year)
6 for hours (8-5)

I plan on staying with this company for a while.

It's retail, and the repetition can get a little old sometimes.

As a plus, you can get "accelerated" pay and free textbooks if you work 15 hours a week minimum (and work when they need you to come in extra hours). The hours are also very flexible, and if you're having a rough time of making your hours, you can stop in whenever you have spare time to make them (even if it's only for fifteen minutes, you can still organize the shelves).

The managers are also pretty relaxed and well-informed, and they are understanding of the need for a student to have flexible hours.

Plus you can watch movies at work.

It's just the nature of the work which causes the job to lose points.

i'm salaried and only working 32 hours a week while i do my night classes. so that's a plus.
good benefits.
easy to take off work...very understanding if you have doc appts and need to come in late or leave early.

minus 2 for it being a stressful job.

I can pretty much work when I want to, as long as the work gets done. Or as long as I have daylight for the fieldwork.

I have to work by myself most of the time. Out in the middle of nowhere...that's a double-edged sword, cause while it's great a lot of the time, it gets really boring and sometimes lonely.

My boss is my father. This takes an already crappy dynamic and just makes it downright shitty. Working with family just plain sucks because the lines are never clearly drawn, and sometimes more is expected of you because the difference between a parent-child relationship and an employer-employee relationship becomes very gray.

The pay isn't bad. But I could be doing better. With benefits. Doing an engineering job that taps into my education a little more.

I have two chains of command, which means two bosses for everything I do. Neither of them work together, and neither of them are really looking out for anyone but themselves.
My immediate supervisor, who is supposed to help me with the job, is on a completely different shift.
My trainer isn't qualified himself.
I only get holidays off if my regularly scheduled off-day falls on that holiday.
Crazy work schedule: four days from 11:30AM to 7:30PM, one day off, four days of 7:30PM to 3:50AM three days off. I don't have a set time for sleeping or eating. I just kind of exist.
If we're undermanned, and I get sick on a weekend when I can't go to the doctor, that's just too bad. We don't really have sick days.
My job is the most boring job I've ever had.
I can't go to school.
The medical benefits are astounding.
The pay is okay.
Overall I give it a 3.

mediocre wages
no internet usage
strict time keeping -- 2 10min breaks, u have to clock out 30min for lunch if you work over 6hrs, have to be in by a certain time, can't leave before a certain time, holidays are strictly those holiday days... such as christmas day off, or new years day (I have to work new years eve )
very few perks--no gym, cafeteria, have to take breaks in the break room which isnt very comfortable. There was a holiday door decorating thing... if we wanted to participate, it'd have to be off the clock. shit like that.

If they hired a few more people and actually made the place not so damn communist, maybe people wouldn't be leaving so much and they'd have more productivity so they wouldnt be forever training new people

4 - I've got great benefits and good pay. However, I'm not being challenged and I have terrible direction from superiors. I've had days where I ask to do something and they say they have nothing for me to do...what the hell am I supposed to do then? Also, I am the youngest person there by 10 years.

Love my job, great benefits as long as I don't have a family, nice perks, the people are phenomenal, and something hilarious happens daily.

The only drawback is that the workflow shifts between dead and insanely busy.

I get paid (very well) to watch the weather.....and I LOVE the weather. 97% of the time I just sit and play on my computer and make sure the weather observation is correct. I am in a small building by myself, so I can watch what I want on the satellite and set the heat to whatever I want.

The 0.2 comes from the fact that it is 87 miles from my home in Raleigh. The commute starts to get to me when school is on, but otherwise I stay in Burlington which is only 34 miles away.

9 - 80% of my job is driving. the other 20% is spraying chemicals on roses/upkeep of rose gardens. customers in myrtle beach means beach time when the work is done (actual work down there takes only a few hours). wage is awesome for the amount of work.

I wait tables, the most stressful job I've ever had. Make great money, and work with some really cool people. But management sucks, they won't give you an inch no matter what your situation is. Hours suck, you have to stay as late as tables are there. And lots of cleaning, which really really sucks, b/c managers really get anal about that stuff.

But being a waitress really has taught me the value of a dollar and that rednecks just don't tip no matter what you do.
