my computer came with 80Gb hard drive, partitioned as such:
C: 20Gb
D: 60Gb

i've never really thought about it until recently, but i've managed to fill up the C, while D has remained more or less untouched. is there a way to move some of the free space from D to C that doesn't involve reformatting or reinstalling windows?

its a Pentium4 2.2Ghz, XP Home.

1) Download latest Knoppix live CD
2) Launch Qtparted disk partitioning utility
3) Resize partition

Anything you have to install on your computer you should leave on your C drive. Anything you download, such as music/movies/etc. you should put on your D drive. If you have any games that eat up a ton of space (World of Warcraft comes to mind), put it on your D drive.

I'm sure if you offer somebody a six-pack, and bring the HD to them, they'll do it for you in 15 minutes.

it would be nice if you could make an array and merge two disks w/o formatting them

too bad i'm in ATL

i've been storing my music in "my music", pictures in "my pictures" and a lot of stuff pro-e and misc stuff exclusively in the "my documents" on C just because it was the default save to directory. maybe i'll just try to move that stuff to D.

the only games i have on it is the original sims and and old mech commander game.
i've never even seen world of warcraft, or whatever.

Did you not read my post? That program will let your RESIZE your partitions, without losing data, to make one bigger, and the other smaller.
