that contracts when given an electrical current, sorta like muscle?

Shape Memory Alloy is similar to that. Not sure if it's exactly what you mean. (Or if SMA is way too general...)

I think the material you're looking for is nitinol.

hmm, i thought there was some nonmetallic version of that

Dielectric elastomers but on a larger scale

Does it matter that it's metallic?

There's a group of materials called electroactive polymers but I think it's like some NASA type shit. I can't find a place to buy any. But I haven't looked that hard.

i want to try and replicate and real muscle with them so i'll probably have groups of them overlapping

i need something nonconductive that'll contract with them so as not to interfere with the other wires i guess
