tonight i started my car and the horn beeped a couple of short times right as i started it. then as i was driving home, there were a couple of short honks. i thought it strange and annoying, but figured that the horn might be stuck down a bit or something, so i tapped both sides of the horn once and figured that might fix the problem.
then as i was pulling into my complex, the horn started sounding constantly and didn't turn off. so i turned the car off -- the horn still didn't stop. so i started the car up again, and the horn stopped after a second.
i pulled into a parking spot and sat there for a minute or two, and then the horn went off again and wouldn't stop honking (this was a constant honk again). so i drove away from the complex and it stopped after about a minute.
i ended up just removing the fuse for the horn. i think it might be a short, but i don't really know anything about cars. i don't really feel comfortable leaving the car parked with the fuse in, because it seems that the horn might start sounding when the car isn't even on.
the car has no security system, so that isn't the issue. it is a 96 saturn (i know i know, not the coolest car, but it gets me where i need to go)

unplug the horn, test at the connector for a short, then start working back through the wiring, i mean what the hell are you asking? i could tell you that the wiring harnes has rubbed through under the dash by the steering column support by the forward bolt, but theres a 99.9999% chance i'd be wrong 12/30/2005 4:02:01 PM |

I'd check the connections for the horn buttons first.
Beyond that, zxappeal found a wiring issue for me. Having seen where he checked I probably could have done it on my own (no offense zx!), but he found and fixed the problem. He did it MUCH quicker than I could have and was MUCH cheaper than a mechanic.
For now I would just leave the fuse out AFTER READING YOU MANUAL FIRST. Who knows what else is on that circuit. You will hate life later if you find the wipers are on the same fuse or worse something like ABS. 12/30/2005 4:11:17 PM |

yeah i'm pretty sure it has its own fuse. i have a chilton's book on the car (i used to have a roommate who could help me out with my car) and there is no mention of anything about the wiring for the horn besides saying that there's a fuse for the horn. 12/30/2005 4:30:49 PM |
