Controlled

anyone know of good spots around here (large empty parking lots, empty roads out in the middle of nowhere with good visibility) to familiarize oneself with the dynamics of understeer, without having to worry about sliding off a cliff, into a curb, traffic, etc. etc.

if you take exit 291 to cary and turn left away from cary you'll hit a sharp 90deg right. take that past the apartments and itll guide you left. turn left at the T ahead. thats a fun road w/ good turns and at the end before another T there is a big brick building w/ a big blacktop parking lot behind it.

thats my local test track

actually I don't care about getting caught, I just want to learn more car control without endangering myself and others, the police state is a horse of a different color- don't get me started on that

but sadly I can't afford a personal track or the sort of track time I'd like... I figure there's got to be some vacant country road or something heading out to an abandoned mill town with a nice big completely and totally empty parking lot or something

umm, if you get caught, cops wont car if you are teacing yourself. you'll most likely get a ticket.

to learn on a skid pad.

get in touch with some local tracks

VIR
CMP
lowes motorspeedway

those are the closest. see what they have. i know CMP and VIR have some sort of "skid pad"
you are better off paying for an event or school than endangering you/others and potentially getting a ticket and points
