^^they have a different theme every week...

next week, the theme may cater to different singers than this week's theme...it all evens out pretty well

plus, if you pick the right song it can work for you...
that chris dude is far from stevie wonder but he took that "higher ground" song and made it work for him

so theyve done these themes every season?... i think they suck, just let peope sign what they want to sing. why in the world would you take a country singer and force her to sing r&B? might as well take a metal singer and make him sing opera, same friggin difference. i liked idol until this theme crap started

I like Chris, but I don't understand the point of having a themed show if they are just gonna let him totally distort the Stevie song. Other than the fact that Stevie wrote the lyrics, there was nothing Stevie-ish about his performance at all. Granted I am not a Stevie fan, but at least the other contestants tried to at least preserve his style a little bit.

But thats not what they wanted. They wanted them to do their own creative take on the music. Simon said when he was talking about Chris's performance that he was the only one that really made it his own and didn't just do a karaoke performance of Stevie's music.

^^^ the difference is the chili peppers already adapted the song to rock and roll, Chris just sang the chili pepper version.

other people have done covers of stevie songs as well...
for example, kellie could have picked a cover of one of his ballads, and put a country touch to it...

chris just picked the right song... i really don't think the other people looked at all their song choices, b/c a lot of them could have picked a better song for their style
