Does anyone know of a good Automobile/personal Injury Attorney in the Raleigh Area?
I was in a pretty bad car accident over the summer that was not my fault. I sustained several injuries and I want to recieve a settlement that fully compensates me for my damages. If you have had any experience with this or know of a good lawyer for the job, please let me know!!! 1/2/2006 1:27:44 PM |

If you're a student use the Student Legal Services for free. The other guys will take at least half of whatever you settlement is after their commishion & expenses. 1/2/2006 5:17:10 PM |

^^^depends on the attorney and law firm really.
do some looking around before you settle on an attorney. many lawfirms do not charge for initial consultation while some do. some take a contingency fee based on how far your case progresses (which is in turn how much more work the lawfirm and its employees have to put into running your case to get a fair settlement). some charge by the hour plus take a percent. some charge a flat rate. the best thing to do is really look up personal injury law firms in the yellow pages and call around and ask. many attorneys will take your call and listen to what kind of case you have and may give you advice on how to do the settlement process yourself based on the fact that your case may not necessitate an actual attorney handling it. 1/2/2006 8:46:26 PM |

A lawyer is going to take a third of your settlement. Try doing it yourself.

Why the 4+ month wait on thinking about an atty? What have you already signed from the insurance company (e.g. medical authorizations, etc)? Which insurance company is it?
How bad were your injuries? How much $texas did treatment cost? Any permanent damage / scarring / etc?
I agree w/ elkaybie (who IIRC is a PI paralegal), definitely do your research first. If you really just want a name, before I came back to NCSU I worked for Aaron Hemmings (http://www.hemmingsandstevens.com/); his office is on Duraleigh Road and he's represented a few NCSU students before. 1/3/2006 12:10:46 AM |

I sustained about $10,000 worth in damages, excluding missed wages. I have pics but they are pretty fucking graphic.
As far as permnant damages... I have pretty bad scars and my finger nails grow back a little funny because the tissue underneath them was ground down.
I've contacted a couple of places. I am going to attempt to try and negotiate myself, but if it goes to litigation I need an attorney. 1/3/2006 2:08:00 AM |

Too bad it's not a Georgia case - I would do it for only 20% of the settlement.
I believe JAllen1127 is an attorney, not sure what kind of work she does though. 1/3/2006 2:21:05 AM |

If you've got $10K in meds, scarring + pics, and there's nothing FUBAR'd with your case (e.g. the other side can't make a claim that you contributed in any way to the accident, you have no prior injuries, etc), you need to find an attorney. Insurance companies don't fuck around as it is, but they're even more vicious when you're talking serious $texas.
(no offense intended toward you, elkaybie, if you work for the insurance side of things )
Litigation is usually a last resort. Out of any given 100 clients I had, there were usually only about 8 active lawsuits and most of their cases involved contributory negligence claims made by the other side.

Give a call to Patrick Williams at

Excellent lawyer. Plus he got in a pretty bad accident and had to handle his own case, so he has all the requisite experience. 1/4/2006 11:45:03 AM |

^^haha, i work for the plaintiff.
and i'm a litigation paralegal so he's right as well--it's a last resort. no one wants to go to court. we'd much rather negotiate with the adjuster or having a mediation before filing suit. and even when you file you can settle anytime...and hopefully during mediation. one of my cases is mediating today at 2...and i really really hope it settles.

The attorney I worked for would not give advice over the phone without an intial meeting. He figured if it was a legitimate case, the person would come in. Also, any advice on the phone could subject him to malpractice and its not worth it if you are not going to be paid for your time.
Law offices get a lot of calls from people that have no case. A lawyer does not want to waste 20 minutes on the phone explaining that to someone.
litigation is SUPER expensive.

You should check out Henson and Fuerst. I've worked with them both in the Rocky Mount office and the Raleigh office. The Raleigh office should be off of Blue Ridge, unless they moved again (they were talking about it when I left). There are no fees unless you get a settlement. I don't know what percentage though. These guys are terrific. As of last year, they had never lost a case that went all the way to court. The only settlements that were lost, were 3, and they were very very iffy, and it turned out in one, the plantniff was lying about some "facts". The whole team works really hard on your case, because if you don't win, they don't get paid. It's easiest to call 1-800-LAWMED. It will transfer you to the Rocky Mount office, which is where most of the attny's live and work. Hope this helps! 1/5/2006 10:20:32 AM |

I second J_Hova's post about Patrick Williams. Patrick is an excellent lawyer and a good friend of mine. I went to law school with him, and he was my trial partner.
I'm an attorney too, but my firm doesn't do a lot of plaintiff personal injury work. 1/5/2006 10:17:36 PM |
