how restrictive is the stock downpipe? that's really the deciding factor.

does changing out dp give large gains? if not, just go cat-back

Catback will do nothing but add "bling". (approx. 1HP)
Downpipe will add "bang" (approx. 20HP)
Turboback will add "bling" + "bang" (approx. 20HP + louder than stock "vroom" sounds)
Turboback + EM will add "bling" + "bang" + (approx. 40HP, blah, blah, blah)

Many WRX/STi owners swear by it, Cobb Tunings Dyno Plot (Turboback + EM)

if you aren't upping the boost, don't bother with a turbo back.

[Edited on January 3, 2006 at 2:10 PM. Reason : V I would just go with a downpipe and the cat back of your choice then. ]

thinking about upping the boost...

i like dafox's setup (turbo back and ecu flash) but i hate the angled look of the exhaust and the extra loud loudness

why not just get a downpipe and keep the stock cat-back??

[Edited on January 3, 2006 at 2:30 PM. Reason : or get a custom cat-back built at R&J or henry's]

get the turboback, you're gonna end up doing it anyway. Might as well get an up pipe too.

I thought you sold your STI and bought a "family" sedan because you knocked up your ex.

you should be able to find a turboback without a huge angled tip

^^clearly no signs of intelligence.

an STI has

1...

2...

3...

4...

doors. AND a spot to put a car seat. I'll buy a luxury 'family' sedan when i decide to keep the STI as strictly a weekend/fun car...but since i can't get enough of the STI i'll just leave it as my daily driver

There are tons of non-canister muffler exhausts....

Um yea, there is no comparison. Get a turbo back, up pipe, enjoy another 20hp.

If you want the deeper toned exhaust, come listen to my Borla "Hush". It's got a sleeper twin-tip look to it (of course, my bleecher-style spoiler negates that part ).

Cost me $500... looking back, I should have went with the Helix downpipe/uppipe combo

don't be a fag

buy a turbo back (that you can live with) so you don't end up buying one later and spending more money overall

i'll never understand why people ask such vehicle specific questions like this on here. surely there is a place you can go where people know all about this subject for your specific car

^surely you can see that you don't have to be an expert on one car to understand the common concept. hence why a lot of people responded with the same answer

"turbo back with down pipe"

so obviously they don't all own STI's but clearly they have some knowledge enough to recommend something.

[Edited on January 4, 2006 at 6:15 AM. Reason : and every other thread in the garage is vechile specific, moron]

but i'm willing to bet your car might respond a little different than other cars people here have experience with. (kind of like the way smoothcrim makes blatently incorrect statements about 1.8T's over & over again)
