Sharon might be the country's only chance at any semblance of peace. He was the only guy in Israel with the power to pull off the West Bank pull-out, and a withdawal from the Gaza Strip will likely be delayed indefinitely if he cannot lead.

Yeah I obviously mixed up the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. It confuses me sometimes because the West Bank is actually on the east side of the country.

Sharon isn't perfect, but he's a hell of a lot better than the hard-liners in the Likud party. And his annexation plan combined with a buffer zone would clearly reduce the violence in the area. If it violates international law, fuck 'em. The Palestinian terrorists never follow the rules either, which is why unilateral action is necessary.

The pundits are saying that Israeli politics are going to be in total flux for the next several years. The Labor Party is starting to go further left while the Likud is going further right. Outside of the controversial hardliner Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu and the ailing Shimon Perez, there are no major national figures left. Certainly if Ariel Sharon were to die, there would be no politician with the influence to negotiate and make any real concessions with the Palestians.

It'll be interesting... unfortunately.

i'm not 30thannz, but I'll say that palestinians aren't inherently "guilty" for having turrists living among them. But harboring and even supporting said terrorists certainly raises their level of guilt, now doesn't it? Of course not all palestinians do so, but so few speak out or hinder the turrists' plans, so...
