BB&Twe had an account with a $100,000 balance there and they were only paying 0.10% interest. i called and asked if they had any promotional rates or higher yield accounts, the answer was no, and they didnt seem to care that we were going to move the money elsewhere, as our accounts and cd's at other area banks are all at least like 4% currently.so we moved the money out.they charged us a service fee, an NSF fee since the service fee made the account negative, and are threatening other charges on top of that. the whole lot adds up to maybe $100, pretty insignificant, but damn. hows that do ya for customer service. some google searches turned up a lot of pages with the same kind of story.anyone ever had a good experience with them?

No. I will never do business with BB&T... not like they care because I have $100 to my name
1/5/2006 9:41:58 AM
I still have a Wachovia account open with 6 bucks in it just to spite them. They send a monthly statement. lol.
1/5/2006 9:48:52 AM
BB&T is great if you have a lot of money[Edited on January 5, 2006 at 9:56 AM. Reason : I mean more than $100k in a savings acct.]
1/5/2006 9:50:28 AM
Grapehead's story would seem to indicate otherwise.
1/5/2006 9:53:39 AM
Then do exactly that only move 99, 994 of the money leave the rest
1/5/2006 10:01:40 AM
i've had a savings account with bb&t since i was a kid, and a checking account with them since i was 15i doubt i've ever had a real complaint about them
1/5/2006 10:05:23 AM
Move the money and take the $100 hit. If you really are getting 0.10% interest you are getting robbed. A savings account at a credit union will net 3%. You'd make about $300 in interest your first month alone - far outpacing the pittance interest at BB&T + the withdrawl service fees.[Edited on January 5, 2006 at 10:07 AM. Reason : Oops, reread - you did move the money out.]
1/5/2006 10:06:27 AM
I would just go and talk to your personal banker - you don't have one? that's part of the problem.$100k to BB&T is nothing - you can take your money to some other bank that will treat you just as poorly.if you want better service talk to a credit union - Allegacy or Truliant come to mind
1/5/2006 10:07:42 AM
well our main checking account is with wachovia, but they had the sense to give us some personal contact, and we moved like 400k combined into high perf mm and cd's. how big is bb&t that 100k doesnt matter to them?
1/5/2006 10:30:19 AM
^ It will matter to them when the bank branch president sees that he's lost 100K worth of accounts for the month.
1/5/2006 11:01:41 AM
No actually another bank won't treat you "just as poorly"
1/5/2006 11:21:36 AM
yeah we have accounts at nearly every local bank, and bb&t is by far the worst comparitively. never even had a bad experience with any other.
1/5/2006 11:39:41 AM
ing direct has shares starting at 3.8% and cds starting at 4.2% just put your money in there
1/5/2006 11:51:24 AM
nah the boss is old school.i personally have accounts there and love them.
1/5/2006 12:29:28 PM
What's the point of .1% interest?
1/5/2006 12:31:30 PM
I was screwed over again and again by Wachovia before I switched to SECU and they are the best bank ever. Once I get some decent wealth, they'll be glad they treated this poor college student well!
1/5/2006 2:12:52 PM
I like SECU. good interest rates on larger amounts in mm, and cd's. I see around 4% on mine
1/5/2006 4:45:21 PM
SECU is great i wish i had money to throw towards USAA. their rates tend to be about 1.5-2 times better than SECU.

all banks are the same, and you have the jews to blame for it.
1/5/2006 7:37:07 PM
That money shouldn't be in a straight up savings account anyway. Invest it properly and make real return.
1/5/2006 8:08:36 PM
what the hell does your bank have to do with you making a threat to my family?
1/5/2006 8:25:18 PM
we are limited to low risk, high liquidity type investment, namely short term cds, tbills, and things of that nature. account was money market i beleive.
1/5/2006 8:28:25 PM
reminds me that i have to call bb&t tomorrow and complain...they're trying to stick me with an "inactive account charge"
1/5/2006 11:11:40 PM
credit unions > *
1/6/2006 1:02:22 AM
find me a local credit union that allows commercial accounts.
1/6/2006 8:18:00 AM
BB&T when i closed my accounts with them tried to charge me NSF charges when they tried to charge me fee's. I refused to pay them and spoke to the supervisor on the phone and basically went "I closed my account, no administrative fees were told to me upon closing, I signed no document saying that you would charge me and if you pursue this I'll file a lawsuit against you. I a lawyer write up an official letter indicating I planed to act if they did not back down. They backed down.
1/6/2006 8:29:16 AM
yeah thats basically what we are going to do. a chick that works here used to work @ rbc and knows all the regulations, so shes working on a letter.
