BB&T

we had an account with a $100,000 balance there and they were only paying 0.10% interest. i called and asked if they had any promotional rates or higher yield accounts, the answer was no, and they didnt seem to care that we were going to move the money elsewhere, as our accounts and cd's at other area banks are all at least like 4% currently.

so we moved the money out.

they charged us a service fee, an NSF fee since the service fee made the account negative, and are threatening other charges on top of that. the whole lot adds up to maybe $100, pretty insignificant, but damn. hows that do ya for customer service. some google searches turned up a lot of pages with the same kind of story.

anyone ever had a good experience with them?

BB&T is great if you have a lot of money

[Edited on January 5, 2006 at 9:56 AM. Reason : I mean more than $100k in a savings acct.]

Grapehead's story would seem to indicate otherwise.

Move the money and take the $100 hit. If you really are getting 0.10% interest you are getting robbed. A savings account at a credit union will net 3%. You'd make about $300 in interest your first month alone - far outpacing the pittance interest at BB&T + the withdrawl service fees.

[Edited on January 5, 2006 at 10:07 AM. Reason : Oops, reread - you did move the money out.]

I would just go and talk to your personal banker - you don't have one? that's part of the problem.

$100k to BB&T is nothing - you can take your money to some other bank that will treat you just as poorly.

if you want better service talk to a credit union - Allegacy or Truliant come to mind

well our main checking account is with wachovia, but they had the sense to give us some personal contact, and we moved like 400k combined into high perf mm and cd's. how big is bb&t that 100k doesnt matter to them?

^ It will matter to them when the bank branch president sees that he's lost 100K worth of accounts for the month.

yeah we have accounts at nearly every local bank, and bb&t is by far the worst comparitively. never even had a bad experience with any other.

I was screwed over again and again by Wachovia before I switched to SECU and they are the best bank ever. Once I get some decent wealth, they'll be glad they treated this poor college student well!

I like SECU. good interest rates on larger amounts in mm, and cd's. I see around 4% on mine

SECU is great

i wish i had money to throw towards USAA. their rates tend to be about 1.5-2 times better than SECU.

I work part time for an investment company that really only has TWO people and $100k ain't shit to us... we actually waive fees on $100k accounts for our bigger clients as a favor. Most places are going to have a minimum of $500k, although there are plenty with less.

Is this a savings account? Why would you put $100k in a savings account? Or is this $100k with their asset management type people?

That money shouldn't be in a straight up savings account anyway. Invest it properly and make real return.

BB&T when i closed my accounts with them tried to charge me NSF charges when they tried to charge me fee's. I refused to pay them and spoke to the supervisor on the phone and basically went "I closed my account, no administrative fees were told to me upon closing, I signed no document saying that you would charge me and if you pursue this I'll file a lawsuit against you.

I a lawyer write up an official letter indicating I planed to act if they did not back down. They backed down.
