got totally fucked financing my current HP a few years ago, can I use any of the parts from this peice of shit? ill get a new motherboard and processor and all that shit, but can I reuse the case or anything.

reusing the existing hard drive is a big plus so that i dont have to transfer a ton of shit, and i would like to get a burn drive that can do dvds. the computer works pretty consistantly now, but the power supplys days are numbered and theres that periodic blue screen problem i have when it gets hot. i literally keep the case open all the time and when it starts acting up i just blow the dust out and she starts working again.

basically I want to start fresh with a new MB/processor/power supply and some new memory, and maybe add a new DVD burner and additional HD to transfer my stuff onto then scrap the old one

^^It's not recommended to do that. Because Windows' initial configuration was done with all your old hardware. Chances are you'll see an improvement with a fresh install on a new HDD and just using your old drive as a slave.

Ya... combining old HD with Windows and new hardware is never the best way to go. You'll have driver issues and other hardware compatabilities you'll have to spend significant time tweaking. Uninstalling old drivers and installing new ones never garuntees perfect operation in my experience. Your best bet is to use a new HD as your Windows drive and install all software and drivers fresh, then you'll be golden.
