I am planning on applying to UNC for their Masters of Accounting program.

I am a senior and will graduate this december. When should I start preparing to take the GMAT? What are some suggestions to help me study for the GMAT?

Carolina's MAC program starts in May and lasts for a full year. I would be entering the program in May of 07'.

Thanks for the help fellow wolfweb peeps.

I could say alot but it would take me a while to write it all down. Can we talk via phone or meet? Also, are you in NC State's undergrad accounting program? What other schools are you applying to and when is the application deadline to UNC? That will help me get started.

I used Princeton Review's Cracking the GMAT and I'm happy with my score.

You can have (free) my 2005 book.

While we are on this thread ... can somebody tell me a way to register for the GMAT? I have had some serious issues trying to use their website and would like to know if there is an easier way.

what website were you trying? http://www.ets.org? Also, you can call 609 921 9000 and you will get the ETS switchboard. Ask for the GMAT/GRE area and they should be able to connect you to someone that can help you.

Hey Wolfee, I am currently a double major in Bus Mgmt and Accounting. Both concentrations are finance. I am applying to UNC and NCSU for their respective MAC programs. Here are my two options;

1) graduate this december with just my bus mgmt degree and then start the MAC program at UNC may 07'. I would have to drop the double major of accounting because Carolina's Mac program doesnt accept students with over 12 hours of accounting classes. Apparently they like to mold their Mac students from scratch.

2)graduate spring 07' with my double major in bus mgmt and accounting and then start the MAC program here at State in the Fall of 07. NCSU requires you to basically get a bachelors in accounting with all the prereq classes.

Carolina's deadline for admissions is December 1st 2006 or March 1st 2007 for admissions to the academic year of may 07-may08. They will decide on admissions for the people who apply in december by feb 1st, and on the ones who apply by March by May 1st. I want to know by february if I get in or not so I am going to probably do the early application.

I have done some research on the GMAT on the http://www.mba.com website and I am planning to take it this summer probably in June or July.

Tried again today with some better luck. FYI to everybody out there, its $250 to take the GMAT ... lot more than the GRE.

What is the GMAT out of? Like if someone gets a score of 650, what is it out of? 1000? Thats probably a dumb question, but i appreciate it

i recommend taking all of the practice tests online. i was VERY late to sign up (2 days before the application deadline ), but managed a decent score and was accepted into the mba program...the practice tests are really great to get used to the questions...

Namwod _ will be glad to share and talk about grad school and these programs in particular, but have lots of students underfoot. If you can remind me in about a week, if I forget, then I will gladly help out. I need to look more at the Carolina program to give you more solid advice. But, initially, based on what you have said here and what I know so far about the history and development of both programs, I would go the NC State route. You may also want to look at Wake Forest.

Yeah, the 1-year MAC program at NCSU is where it's at. I've got a friend in it and he says it's the way to go. It's highly regarded as well.

1 extra year and you're a Master. Can't beat that. And you get to stay at a real school

If anyone wants it, the book is in the drawer next to the Dr. Pepper machine in Nelson.

Includes CD.
