unless we fire both current coaches.

Herb is cursed. Amato is an idiot.

It would also go a long way towards making our fanbase bearable again.

fuck this, i dont have anything to look forward to in sports until the Dolphins start playing again.

its funny to watch all you kids come here for the first time and get all riled up

talking about national championship this, beat unc that

and then seeing you all gradually get worn down to angry, hopeless cynics

it really is enjoyable for me

This is what I completely hate about this university. Not the athletics program. Not Lee Fowler. Not Herb Sendeck. Not Chuck Amato. Fucking pussies like you guys that will make another goddam thread according to the following outline.

ATTN: (insert athletics official here)

FIRE *said official* now. NC State is (mediocre | bad | getting worse | other negative adjective). I'm so pissed off that I will go and throw a yellow flag at the coach at the walk of champions.

BUT. If we win:

ATTN: (insert athletic official here)

HOLY SHIT! *said official* is amazing! He's finally doing his job after (10 | 6) years! It took a while, but he's finally come around!

Now, I'm not happy with the current state of the athletics department. The only one who needs to be fired is Fowler. And that's been said a billion times. Look folks, I hate losing to UNC. I hate going to the crappy care care bowl. But what the fuck? If yesterday, we had pulled the win out against UNC, this board would have a completely different attitude. And that is the very definition of a TERRIBLE FAN! If you win, things are great, if you lose, fire people. You can be disappointed, even pissed, in a loss. But to come here and go to the extreme (National Champion -> Fire coaches) in a single fucking day... you have completely lost the grip on what it means to be a fan, especially an NC State fan.

Half the fun of rooting on the pack is the fact that we're not supposed to beat Carolina or Duke. We're the 3rd level of triangle sports. And when we do pull those upsets against #1 Duke, or we beat a good Florida State team in Tallahassee... there's a very real energy to that. What made the 1983 championship so great? The fact that we weren't even supposed to be the tournament to begin with.

Don't get me wrong. I don't want to be the 3rd down in the triangle hierarchy, but you have to realize that both Sendeck and Amato (sendeck moreso than Amato) are on an upswing. It's a pivotal point in NCSU Basketball and Football. What we need right now is sane and competent fans. No. We shouldn't have lost yesterday. That was a game that was ours. But we lost. You can critique the play calling, the way we handled ourselves, etc. But don't come in here and make another goddam "fire" thread. That is so overused and overblown that no one takes it seriously anymore. It's completely lost its touch.

having been an nc state fan for about 20 years i'm surprised that anyone who claims to have been a fan for a long time doesn't have a little more perspective by now...

when you've been through the Les Robinson era and the 3-8 Mike O'Cain years then 7-5 with a bowl win and losinga game as the #12 team in the nation doesn't seem very bad...

And it's not "very bad." It's bad to lose to carolina at all. But Christ. we're 12 - 2. Last year we upset the defending national champions to go to the sweet 16. I mean, I think these people will absolutely take nothing less than a BCS bowl and an NCAA tournament win.

Carolina lost to Santa Clara last year to go on to win the National Championship. Losing to a ranked Carolina team isn't as bad as it could get.

^ I'm right there with you. It's ridiculous. We are 12-2 and still undoubtedly going to be in the Top 20. It's still our best start to a season since 1987 (tied) and we have a great shot at being a Top 3 seed i the tournament if we play to ability.

Lets face it, Carolina deserved to win. They played their best game of the year..... by far. I give it up to them. I mean since when does a player who is a 66% FT shooter go 14-14 and a team that shoots ~70% shoot 95% from the FT line. They just played great.

It's one game. Nothing more, nothing less.

Yeah, Carolina lit us up. That Frasor guy went from nobody to somebody in a day (largely due to our lack of defense. How many times did he drive to the hoop with no one within 5 feet of him?)

Carolina played well. We should've won. We didn't. But we're still 12 - 2 and we still have a great team.

Part of it is we're less than 50 miles from two colleges that pretty much compete for a national championship every year.

So in other words, we're the Mets and Carolina and Duke are the Yankees.

Well to turn that around all we need to do is win then if you're going to use that comparison.

If the Mets win they are just as 'important' in NYC as the Yankees and hard facts support that.

Since 1962 (Mets 1st year) the Mets have drawn more then the Yankees 22 years. The Yankees more then the Mets 22 years.

/Mets comparison!

My whole deal is Lee Fowler...I'm ok with Amato because we went to a bowl, and I actually like Herb...but I really really really don't like Lee Fowler. He accepts mediocrity in so many of our varsity sports (vollyball anyone?), and that's unacceptable in my book.

I'd rather be in our position than Virginia Tech...who are being slammed in Fball for being thugs even though they won 10+ games and just plan stink in Bball

plus VT is located in a bunch of Cow fields in Western part of VA. At least NCSU still located in a good place and we have other things to do besides Fball.

I guess we can all place our hopes on the Canes for this year That is a scary thought...but for the time being they look pretty damn good.

I understand this but I really hate it. Seasons should NOT be judged on beating some school that we shouldn't even give two shits about down the road. They should be based on OUR body of work. If we get blown the fuck out by Carolina 3 times this year yet make it to the Elite 8 or Final 4 I will be happier then hell.

^ yea if you like REAL DIRTY football programs. I mean their rap sheet over the years would make Miami and Tennessee blush..

I agree with this you NYm410, but to this point in the season that is one of the 3 biggest games we have had, the only rivalry game we've played, and a game against a team we should beat.

A win at Cameron or against UNC in Raleigh will make this loss easier to swallow - until then what else is there to dwell on?

being in the middle of nowhere isn't as nice as it might seem. i like being able to have a little more culture around me than just college students.

as for the main topic of the thread, it might have already been said, but we've finished well in the acc in basketball often.

I dont really think its a big deal for people to get worked up over the UNC game.

Of all the teams we play, we take more shit from the fans of UNC than anyone else. When we lost to them my freshman year in basketball once...I was like "ok...one game"

then again "ok well we finished 2nd in the ACC"

then in football...we got screwed

then again in basketball....WTF

then again...we suck

Then this year...we're even ranked ahead of them....we suck again

I'm just so god damn tired of hearing about it. Somewhere in this fantasy of mine I think that a Win will shut them the fuck up...but in reality I know it wont in the long run. Like I said before, I dont want to win so we can talk shit...I just want them to shut the fuck up for five good minutes.

As long as the Commissioner of the ACC is a UNC Alum, State will have a hard time winning anything. John Swofford grew up in my hometown (North Wilkesboro), which is a Walmart Nation stronghold. He went to UNC on the Morehead scholarship and played football. Then he was AD for the school from 90-97 before taking over at the ACC. Tell me he's not biased....

I know everyone will disregard my comments as a wacko conspiracy, but I seriously believe it is his intention to keep State down as far as possible. I would assume he has his hands in the schedules that are made for all sports, and I have a feeling he was smiling as State lost on Saturday.... Whether he was directly involved in which officials were chosen for that game or not is a good question to ask.

I say FIRE JOHN SWOFFORD! FIRE ERSKINE BOWLES! Stop the UNC takeover of all of our governing agencies as a University!!!!

Viva Wolfpack!

you really did grow up in the middle of nowhere. I grew up in a small town, and now I'm right at home in Wilmington (not as big as Raleigh or even Winston-Salem). I don't plan to live in North Wilkesboro again until I retire if ever at all. I will always consider that my home, but I only plan to visit my family there now.... Anyway, back to the topic.

FIRE JOHN SWOFFORD!!!!! Get that Tarheel out of the top spot! As long as he controls the officials we will never win the conference.

We DO NOT need to fire 2 coaches

we DO NOT need to fire 2 coaches who have the potential to win some championships of respectable level

because then we'll just hire TWO MORE coaches with a lot of potential, who will perpetuate mediocrity

we need better management of the assets we currently have

key $donors need to light a fire under the asses of these coaches and/or Lee Fowler for things to improve

Sendek CAN win an ACC championship or two, and Amato CAN take us to the BCS a couple of times

more importantly, the two CAN beat Carolina consistently if they are made to realise how fucking important those games are to fans

FIRE JOHN SWOFFORD. That's it. As long as he is in charge, NC State will continue to get ripped in close games and continue to get bad calls always. State needs to learn to always win by 20-30, so that officials and referees cannot influence the outcome. Look at all the close games State has had over the last few years. Officials decide the outcome when its a close game, and 9 times out of 10 it is going to be decided against NCSU when ACC officials are involved. There has been something fishy about the officiating in the ACC for a long time. It's not just our games either. Any game that is close, the ref's ultimately decide. And, they tend to decide in a way that benefits certain teams.... Something needs to change. We need an ACC commissioner and an ACC staff that are unbiased, and Swofford and his minions are not it. Like I said before, I know where Swofford came from. I know what that area is like, and I guarantee that he is as biased as they come. The "Hate State" mentality is something I'm sure he knows well and puts into practice.

Viva Wolfpack! Fight the oppression!!
