looking at some houses around philadelphia and vicinity and noticing alot of pretty nice looking houses do not have a/c. granted several that i am looking at are fairly old... as in 100+. no need for a/c around there?

it gets hot in the summer, you'll probably have to buy some window units unless you can live with it being 80-90 degrees inside. i know people that just use fans here, but i hate being hot inside, so i bought a window unit for about $100. also, be careful to check about the areas that the houses are located in, because the neighborhoods are sort of weird here, you'll be on one really nice street and the next one over can be sort of sketchy.

haha currently i live in southern louisiana - lived in both new orleans and baton rouge. believe me... i know about trashy cities and definitely about seeing a million dollar street next to the ghetto. i'm really looking in a few suburbs - oxford, drexel hill, etc.

Valley Forge is about where I grew up. You'll need window units, that's what we had.

Weather in Philly is not that much different than NC. It gets hot and muggy in the summer and seems even hotter if you are in center city. Are you looking in the city or just around and if so what section?

What ^ said. My friend lives in Philly after living here in Raleigh and swears we can compare the two with very little differences. Except it snows there more frequently.

i live 1.5 hours south of Philly, and we still hit the 90s in the summer. i would definately recommend a/c. i live in 100+ year old house, but someone installed central A/C. its only about
$2-3k if you already have forced air for your heating (for my size house, which isnt very big). if it is still radiator heating, it costs significantly more.

that being said...there are still houses being sold around me for $400-500k without a/c.
