I transferred to Western to finish my teaching degree b/c it is cheaper and close to home. Last Saturday, I had to attend shit-ass computer class at 8 am (with a 90 min. commute). I have an Ex there and I'd planned on leaving after class but wanted to go to a concert in Duluth GA that evening so I thought I'd hang out with her and take a nap... no... we had wild sex for like 5 hours. So we leave for the concert in seperate cars (she's a fan too) and the artist (a friend of mine) plays even a third set b/c we drove so far... the concert was over at like 11 and I had to get her north of Gainsville and me back to Murphy.
I was driving back through Helen GA. I'd counted more than 3 dozen cops I'd passed... I passed three GA deputies sitting in a parking lot and one of them gradually came after me. I decided that if I drove 55 in a 55 he'd DEFINATELY think I was up to some shit so I set my speed at 62...
He followed me for a few miles, I turned north on 69 towards Hayseville, NC and I saw the NC State line sign and he bluelighted me at 2 am.
He said "I pulled you over b/c you were weaving... Have you been drinking?" I said "No sir, I was at a concert in a coffee shop, I'm just trying to get home." He took my license and went back to his car, I was cold and I covered up in a shirt...
He came back and said "Mr. XXXX, can you please step out of the car?" The very first thing I thought was "I've been awake for 22hrs. and I'm exhausted, he's gonna want me to do the Roadside Olympics and I don't think I can do them anyways!"
I said "yes sir, but may I get my jacket it's in the back seat...?" I didn't want to make any sudden movements and the truth was I did have a gun in the trunk...
He said "nevermind, we can do this here, just blow into this..." So I blew into his thingy.
He said "Ok, I just wanted to make sure you were ok to drive, have a safe evening."
I was a little perturbed at first but the more I thought about it, the more it made sense. Yes, it was bullshit for him to pull me over, I've seen the GA police call "weaving" on numerous occasions. But, a dude coming out of Helen at 2 in the morning in a sports car towards NC... 9 times out of 10 prolly would have been drinking.
I don't blame the dude, I'm kinda glad they were trying to keep the roads safe. 1/10/2006 10:51:13 PM |

The point of the story is that being up for 22 hours can make you just as bad of a driver as drinking can, but I don't know if the poster of the thread realized that was the point. 1/10/2006 11:35:19 PM |

^see: Chit Chat, dumbass.
I wasn't "weaving," I was simply driving where the road was the smoothest. The truth is I wasn't, they did the same thing to my dad two years ago... "weaving" is probable cause for "just checking." And how the hell do you dispute it? It's a damn good thing he wasn't behind me when I crossed Unicoi Mtn. weave my ass... I took the NASCAR road-race line up that fucker; especially when turning to the left... The Beardawgmobile rides on rails and sticks to the line. It's ironic that he checked me when I was literally on cruise control.

I've had that happen, too. It's a little hassle, but like you said, 2 am is prime time for drunk driving, so he is just trying to earn his pay.1/10/2006 11:50:57 PM |

Yeah, pulling over to puke out your car door is cause for just checking too. A friend of mine got sick for some reason, and she pulled over while driving me home. 1/11/2006 12:57:38 AM |

my brother got pulled after being in Baja for 3 1/2 months. he was all scruffy still and was apparently weaving but it was more likely to the fact that he hadn't been behind the wheel in over 3 months. so when the cop pulled over and saw my dishevelled bro he immediately assumed he'd been drinking. me, his wife, and a friend were in the car and thought it was a hoot when the cop said "sir, have you been drinking?"
"no, i've been in baja"
but that didnt fly...he still had to get out and do a sobriety test--d'oh!

Cops don't think like this. And if they do, they cannot act on it. Every time I've ever been pulled over, its because I was speeding, swerving, or doing something stupid. It was never because I was driving the speed limit at 2 am.1/11/2006 11:44:43 PM |

I honestly believe if they want to pull you over, they'll find a reason. I have no doubt he was going to pull me over no matter what. Why else would he follow me for miles and pull me just shy of the state line? Was I too wild and crazy for NC's few and far between State Troopers? 1/11/2006 11:51:54 PM |
