I happen to prefer James May's commentary - less of the Clarkson "how easily can I spin this thing" - more about how the car drives and how it fits into its intended niche...

though it takes all 3 types of hosts for the show to work, so that's not really a complaint

they need more cheap car challenges - it 70's supercar challenge this season had a downer of an ending, but made the point well enough
