bill of sale can be just about anything that is labeled "bill of sale"

I usually just type one up, print it out and have places for everybody to sign and places to write in the VIN #'s and shit

You can even write the shit on a napkin. The B.O.S. for my yota was written on a scraggly looking ripped 1/4 sheet of notebook paper, and it was sufficient.

No title = no sale IMO.

Gotta wonder why someone has to sell something now and they can't wait a few weeks for a replacement title to come in. Sounds sketchy.

And while a bill of sale might keep you from getting a "possession of stolen property" charge, it will not keep the police from returning the property to it's rightful owners and leaving you up shit creek with no money and no property. Just one thing to think about if there is any chance that it is stolen.

I'd call the VIN in to the police department for a search to make sure it is (halfway) legit.

You still have to have a title to be the lawful "owner" of the vehicle. Of course being the lawful owner of it means you have to pay property tax on it (boo!). I think you might be confusing titling with registering.
