I loved how every person speaking yesterday was respectful and in high spirits until Kennedy started his vitriolic twenty minute lecture, and he's the one talking about "progress" and "what we want America to be like." 1/13/2006 10:53:06 AM |

Politicians are such hypocrites. They force hard working Americans to bankroll their pet projects, and want Americans to give up their gas-burning vehicles to "better the environment", and then they leave Capitol Hill in their huge SUV's, go back to their huge homes, and count their money as they horde it.
If I ever run for political office, I plan to refuse anything above my required living expenses. I don't want politics to be where I earn my fortune like so many do today. I want to be firmly established on my own before I make my run, and I intend to give my paychecks back to the people. Government used to be voluntary and done without pay. I believe it should go back to being that way. 1/13/2006 10:58:18 AM |

I'll probably never run, but I just hate the way things are right now on both sides. I am so close to being libertarian it's not even funny. I think that government shouldn't get so involved in our lives. I hate how many government programs are out there to keep people dependent.
"Work harder. Millions on welfare depend on you." used to be right. Now it's more like
"Work harder. Tens of millions of government dependents are depending on that money you're working to earn." 1/13/2006 11:06:27 AM |

Someone may not have ground to stand on due to total hypocrisy (sp?)...but that doesn't supercede his duty to perform his job as an elected representative, and at the moment his job is to criticize a nominee for the Supreme Court, and since that's a lifetime appointment I'd say he has every right to be critical no matter what he's done in the past. 1/13/2006 11:36:32 AM |

Joe Biden takes the train....though I'm sure he does have a huge home and counts his money.
V I believe that point has already been made

Would Samuel Alito even be considered for a seat on the Supreme Court if he had committed an act of plagiarism? Would he be considered for the highest court in the land if he had let a woman die in his submerged car? Welcome to the Alito Senate confirmation hearings, featuring Joseph Biden, the Delaware Senator bounced from the 1988 presidential race for plagiarism, and Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts, a notorious womanizer responsible for the drowning death of Mary Jo Kopechne. Of course, our media don't want to talk about any of that. " |
LOL
They need to get KKK man Robert Byrd from West Virginia in on this lecturing Alito on racial matters to make this charade even a more complete joke.
And let me make it clear that I don't support Alito. He's a pro-abortion, pro-gun control, pro-wiretapping, pro-executive power over constitutional rights tool.

But the true test of appeals court judges isn't which personal views they hold, but to what extent those personal views may influence how they rule in a particular case.
On this issue, legal analysts disagree in their assessments of Judge Alito. Some say he is a conservative ideologue. Others say he is a smart, careful jurist who leaves personal views behind when he dons his black robes.
The best evidence of his work as a judge are his published opinions. They contain a few surprises and some ammunition - for both the left and the right.
For example, of the four abortion cases in which he participated as an appeals court judge, he voted on the pro-choice side in all but one. " |

Quote : | "Alito tells senators he respects precedent
By Charles Hurt THE WASHINGTON TIMES November 9, 2005
Federal Judge Samuel A. Alito Jr. told senators yesterday that he has great respect for Supreme Court precedent, which some suggested meant he would be reluctant to reverse federal abortion rights.
Sen. Joe Lieberman, Connecticut Democrat, met privately with the Supreme Court nominee and asked him about the importance of precedent, such as Roe v. Wade, the 1973 case guaranteeing abortion rights.
Mr. Lieberman said that Judge Alito replied: "Roe was a precedent on which people -- a lot of people -- relied, and had been precedent now for decades and therefore deserved great respect."" |
