i currently have 24.211.xx.x

can i change it anywhere in windows? if so, how?

i have road runner. im guessing all rr have static IP.

also is there are utility that lets you change it

you can try to reboot the modem but Im sure you lease that IP for X number of days.

Mine hasnt changed in months and I have rebooted and everything

if you use *nix/dhclient you can change the dhcp client alias in dhclient.conf and renew to get a new IP address, or you could at one point at least

also if you pull an IP, change your IP, then renew (with linux, ifconfig/dhclient) it used to pull a new address

also if you release, change MAC alias, renew (again with linux, ifconfig/dhclient) it used to pull a new address


also if you run a tftp server with the right address, gateway, and host a file encrypted with the right key you can uncap (early?) DOCSIS surfboard modems... for like 12 hours before they turn off your roadrunner and refuse to sell you cable service at that address of any variety for the rest of your natural life

True static IPs they will charge you $10/month for. Otherwise, you'll keep that IP address for a couple of months before it changes. If you need to changed sooner ... um, try giving them a call?

easiest way is to release the IP from the modem, unplug it for a couple of days and the renew.. more and likely the IP address will have been reassigned to another modem by then.

You should be able to see how long the lease on the IP is so you don't have to wait a few days for shits and giggles.

Or I'm sure google knows. You can't be the first person asking this.

If you are using Windows, open a run window and type in cmd to get to a command prompt. At prompt type in ipconfig /all

This will give you all your IP information, including the time your IP was leased and when it expires...and just cause it expires don't mean you will get a different IP. I have DSL and have had same IP for 6 months now.

However, leaving modem off for a day or so and then releasing and renewing might work...seems like a good posibility that someone will have received that IP by then.

You could also complain to TW or whoever about your modem being busted. Just be persistant and have them replace it. With a new MAC most likely you will get a new IP.
